Switch from sertraline to citalopram

Has anyone switched from another med to citalopram. Switched to sertraline from citalopram because of hair problems, but still getting them on new meds. As still got some citalopram thinking of switching back as sertraline making me feel absolutely dreadful. Weaning off them, can't get appt with GP for another 2 weeks or so, last time he said wean off couple weeks then start new ones. Only been on sertraline 8 weeks but getting worse and worse. Just wondered how anyone else did it?

left a message for doctor when he's next in on Monday. Can't stay on sertraline is making me feel worse and worse and really depressed. Felt OK on citalopram was just the hair issues. Some others seem to have had problems with it. I'm trying lowering dose but if doesnt improve had enough. Sometimes think you have accept some meds not right ones for you.

hey Leanne the hair loss could be done to stress aswell x I'm losing a lot of my hair and thought it was sertraline but I'm back on citalopram and it's still happening so I think its definitely anxiety too.
sertraline I didn't agree with and ended up going back on citalopram
deblou is right it's hard swapping but if you are getting worse and worse on sertraline it's not the one for you I assume x
how bad are things getting on sertraline?

Like you just can't take the sertraline anymore been bad from day 1 just got worse and worse now feeling really depressed and teary. I know you shouldn't keep swapping but can't go on like this. Left message for my gp so hopefully be able to swap.Agree maybe it's the stress affecting my hair as thinning on sertraline. Got some shampoo that's meant to help. Think have accept it's not right med for me. How are you?

Hi Lemanna
I agree with Deblou.
Also, perhaps withdrawal from citalopram is making symptoms worse. Eight weeks isn't long enough for withdrawal symptoms to cease. I'm getting them after 6 months.

Don'T think it'S withdrawal was only on citalopram 8 weeks a low dose and felt awful on sertraline right from the start. I know from zopiclone withdrawal usually takes a week or so to kick in and started sertraline within days stopping citalopram. It's just not right med for me potatoghost had problems with them as well, not all meds work same for everyone . I've got friends stopped citalopram easily no withdrawal symptoms.Feel better having made decision to stop them anyway.

Still could be withdrawal even after only 8 weeks. Hope you can sort something out with your doctor soon. Best wishes!

Maybe but don't think they're right meds for me. It is a bit of a minefield and everyone seems to have different experience with taking and stopping them. Toria having real problems with withdrawal but got friends who stopped cold turkey no problems difficult to know what to do at times!

Yes it is difficult to know what to do at times. My aunt had no problems coming off citalopram over three weeks but I've read other stories when it has taken months and years even. Whatever you decide to do with regards to meds , I'd hold on that med and dose until your symptoms subside. Don't do as I stupidly did and mess around with doses. 😊

I know it can be hell coming off meds, zopiclone been a nightmare so sympathise how you are feeling. Just sometimes difficult knowing what to do as everyone's experience different. Def stopping the sertraline dropped to 25 mg now, been keeping sort of record and looking back things dramatically got worse after I started taking it. Did manage to go out today so will wean off bit longer then swap. Wasn't trying to belittle the drugs I know all drugs can cause problems , just some people can stop easily and others have dreadful problems which makes deciding which ones to take quite difficult. Hope you soon improve I've had zopiclone withdrawal for year no improvement so do you know what you are going through. Hope things improve.

Thanks part of the anxiety is type of harm OCD so have make myself go out and get very jittery. Some days just have stay indoors. Have you tried chamomile tea in the evening does help bit with sleep. I've given up ever sleeping through the night, do sometimes take phenergan but not very often. Did try self hypnosis CD worked for a while as well.
