Switched from lexapro to Prozac 7 weeks

Posted , 5 users are following.

Hello everyone, have visited this forum often, just recently decided to create an account. I was on lexapro for anxiety, (24 year old) panic, ocd for 2 years and then it stopped working. I started Prozac 7 weeks ago. 6 weeks on 20mg, 1 week on 40mg. I was wondering a few things:

1. How long for dose increase to be in body, take effect? Did it increase your anxiety?

2. Anyone have joint, neck pain from Prozac

3. Since Lexapro stopped working, Whole body feels tense, like while driving, after a while, hand gets sore and red like it is gripping steering wheel very tightly? Anyone else

Thank you for your time.

    Hi Raiyan,

Welcome to the forum. I also took Lexapro before switching to Prozac. I am on 10 mg. I haven't increased mine yet, but from what I've read on here, it's almost like starting over. So it could take several weeks for it to kick in. I have had lots of joint pain on Prozac. I'm at a little over 6 weeks. The side effects are rough but I'm told they will get much better with time. I hope you start to feel better soon. Xxx

Thanks Jennifer! Yeah I was supposed to increase after 2 weeks @20mg to 40mg, but thought 20mg would be enough. What i have been told is that lexapro 10mg is very powerful, and 20mg prozac isn't enough because its older and slower?  So I hope 40mg will work out. Lexapro was just so much quicker/easier side effect and effectiviness wise lol

I think that when it's your first time to take an SSRI, it works pretty quickly and easily. I had the same experience when I first got on lexapro 6 years ago. But getting on Prozac has been rough! Hoping things will settle soon. And yes - 10 mg of lexapro is very strong. The dosing for Prozac is much different. Good luck to you!

Hi! I hope Prozac will work for you. I was on it for 15 weeks and felt awful the whole time. Back on Lexapro now and I feel great. Everyone is different though. Why did you make the switch? Good luck to you.

O thought that it didn't work for me anymore but I think I was wrong I'm hoping this kicks in and if it doesn't I'm going back to my lexapro 😟feel even worse then I did 😟

I was the same way. Became convinced that the Lexapro had stopped working so I started making all kinds of changes. For me, getting settled back on the Lexapro was what I needed. The Prozac may work for you though, give it time. Some suggest keeping a log of how you feel so you can see when you have improvements.

I switched from paxil to Prozac and I know what you mean about the tense muscles! Upped my dose to 40 mg 2 weeks ago and it definitely spiked my anxiety. Just waiting it out. Hang in there!

I switched from 10 mg Lexapro to 20 mg of Prozac almost a month ago I feel like I’ve been feeling so much more tired and unmotivated! Has anyone else had this happen?
