Hi everyone,
Went to see a Psychiatrist and she recommended that I switch to Paroxetine. She wants me to start 20mg of Paroxetine while tapering the Citalopram - 20mg one week, 10mg another, then done.

If you have been on Citalopram for five years, it may be the change will work better because of the time you were on them. I would hope the change will be ok especially if tapering of one and tapering onto another different medication. All I can suggest is go with the change, you say they are allowing two weeks for the change, that sounds ok, many of these medications are quite similar.
In my case I take the saying, If it is not broke do not fix it !!!. However you need to follow any recommendations given.
They changed a medication for my PsA, and I felt quite wary of the new medication. I was supposed to be beneficial against the earlier drug. I changed the drug two weeks before a holiday and I was fine, in fact they seem to be working fine and the pain seemed to be less. It is all to be down to trust, If you trust your Specialist great, although I would still give the change a good chance to work well for you

Hi I've been on citalopram for prob 10yrs maybe longer.
Not had a great year on and off. My doctor has just switched me to sertraline. Which I was wary of but we have to trust what doctors say.
Good luck.

I have been on Paroxetine (under the trade name of Paxil) for over 25 years, since I was diagnosed with clinical depression at 38 years old. It works great for depression, less so for anxiety.
Recently my Psychiatrist increased my dosage to 30 mg/day from 20 mg/day) owing to depression and anxiety from some intense legal problems I have now. The 30 mg seems to be working better.
I'm not sure of the effectiveness of Paroxetine/Paxil for OCD. It works somewhat on anxiety, but mainly is used to address clinical depression. I have found it only partially effective on 'intrusive thoughts'.
