Switching medication times from night to morning...

I have had a really difficult time getting quality sleep since I started Sertraline as I wake around 4:30 every morning and stay awake. I try to be in bed by 9:30-10:00 pm to try to counter balance this but the quality of my sleep is just not great. I currently take 50 mg at bedtime (day 24).

Has anyone switched their time of dosing and had better sleeps? I am thinking of trying this weekend but my main worry is being groggy and sleepy at work during the day. I have never tried this med with am dosing before. I used to take Cipralex at bedtime and would sleep right through the night.

Thanks for your input.

    Hi Ali,

It's my 26th day on SERT 50 and I take it every morning with breakfast. My sleep improved last week. I don't feel groggy or very tired during the day. You should start sleeping better when you start taking it in the morning.

Thanks Ala! I am really hoping that the switch to morning will make a difference with sleep. I think I may try switching to tomorrow morning (since it's Saturday) and I can see if it makes me drowsy. You don't appreciate your good sleep until you haven't had it for awhile!

I understand you very well... I have just started falling asleep on my own for the first time since end of April....I still wake up during the night but I fall back to sleep.

Hi, have you switched your SERT to am? Sleep any better?

@Ala1483 I switched to a morning dose just today and was pleasantly surprised that it didn't make me groggy. Sleep last night was fragmented but I think I was stressing about changing the dose time. When I'm in my anxiety cycle any decision can set me off! Hoping for improved sleep moving forward! Thanks for checking in! 😃

Sertraline is a med that activates your brain, that's why it can be hard to sleep well. When I was taking it at bed time I could not sleep at all. The doctors generally prescribe to take it in the evening because of side effects that you could sleep through.

Then the doctor advised me to take it in the morning because of sleep problems. I take it around 10am and feel so much better, my sleep definitely improved.

Thanks Alexandra! Today was day 4 of morning dose (7:30 am) and besides getting jittery around 2:30 pm....I am feeling ok with the switch. Just waiting for my sleep to improve and brain to catch up to the change in time.
