Switching to Lexapro

hi everyone

I have been on Citalopram for one year now and really well. The remaining side effects are dry mouth and weight gain I was 63 kilograms and now 67 kilograms. I have a healthy diet and walk everyday at a good pace for an hour so it has to be the meds!

My GP has recommended switching to Lexapro as it is not supposed to have the side effect of weight gain. Lexapro is ecitalopram not citalopram but functions similarly. What do you think team ? Anyone done this seamlessly or do you think it risky?

My doctor thinks it would be OK to take 20 mg of Lexapro as I am already taking the same dose of Citalopram but wondered if anyone else managed to do this without any side effects? I.e. Substitute one for the other

    Hey Felis,

Unless your really worried about slight gain that sounds pretty normal Id be worried if it was 63-107kgs the other thing is our bodiues slow down with age so some of thegain is natural although I agree seems to be meds as others have had that too.

My point is is it worth having side effects just to maybe decrease the weight? completely your choice whatever way you go I wish you the best !!

      Thanks Stevo

Sound advice I am definitely thinking that way .Decided to cut down on fat and sugar and eat healthily.I don't want to try and fix something which is working well.

i have an 18 year old in her last year at school and she's having anxiety. She hasn't inherited this from me as she's adopted. So I need to be strong for her. changing meds is really not worth the risk of side effects.

Thank you so much for your support it is great having a fellow sufferer to confirm my thoughts on this

Hi everyone I’m back!, been really well on lexapro from 2014 til 2017 about 4  months ago I came very slowly off lexapro according to the lovely Katecogs advice. Everything going so well and then last night my daughter just up and left to live with her boyfriend without so much as a by your leave!

She left the most vitriolic letter accusing me unfairly and set me right back to square one. I went to my GP the next day and given my history wants me to start on mirtazopline.?to help me sleep as I keep going over and over her hurtful comments and can’t sleep. The thing is I have a wedding to go to Sat (Two days away) so thought I’d start mirt on Sunday after the wedding my blood pressure is through the roof as a result of her letter.and the worry.

the doctor then wants me back on lexapro ASAP as it worked so well last time.

Should I take mirt.? Or just go back on lexapro.

please help someone I am so sad and unhappy over my daughter. Thankfully I have a wonderful husband and son.
