swollen ankle

I've had surgery on my 3rd metatarsal, i was in a non weight bearing cast for three weeks. I can now weight bear in a shoe, and im still using crutches. Is it normal for foot to keep swelling around the ankle, also for it to be a bit painful around ankle when i move my foot

Josie, I had fusion of foot bones end March, had cast then boot.  Now I am using one crutch but my foot is terribly swollen.  Can't get my foot into any of my shoes, going around in an old pair of crocs.  Have pain as well when I move my foot but hoping that will improve when I get physio.

Swollen ankles and swollen feet are common and usually not cause for concern, particularly if you have been standing or walking a lot. But feet and ankles that stay swollen or are accompanied by other symptoms could signal a serious health problem.

Started physio yesterday and hoping things will improve.  Consultant told me it will be 9-12 months before my foot back to normal as regards swelling. So it's still the old crocs!
