Swollen ankle getting worse

Hi guys,

I've been walking around a lot more trying to help my recovery. A few wks ago my swollen ankle had gone down a lot. Now the ankle has swollen again. Has anyone taken water tabs off their doctor to reduce the swelling or is it something us hippies are prone to. Should I just wait or ask for tablets,

Brenda

Hi Brenda. I had bad swollen ankles in the early days, this went down with elevation in bed over a few nights. Now walking more the swelling is back, so back to elevating in bed, seems to work for me.

Mine is a lot better in morning but, I haven't elevated it since the early wks. I'll try that again. It gets more painful as day goes on, so limp gets worse. Can't win ????

I just asked my Doctors office the other day ( I am pre op, going in Tuesday) if I swell should I take a fluid pill, they said " no, elevate it"... Good luck, maybe with walking more when your " down" put it up. All the best!!!

Some one else posted on this and someone suggested massaging the lymph node system to aid it absorb/drain the swelling better. A quick google got lots of positive research on thus from very respected clinical and research centes. You get this done by your RMT or do it yourself - lots of youtube videos on this (one by Heather seemed quite good).there is also a clip about deep breathing and how it increases te effectiveness of the lymph nodes. I suspect this would be good for us all as pain and anxiety tends to rate shallower breathing patterns. I hope this helps please let me know what your doctor or RMT says.

    Hi Brenda

How long is it since your op.  I am just over 6 months post op and I'm still having problems with my ankle. I think it is results of an old injury.  Because it's affecting my foot I can't walk any distance.  I am going to see an orthopaedic consultant tomorrow and hope to get some answers. I don't have water retention I think it's a nerve problem from my back.

i hope you get some satisfaction from your doctor.  Keep in touch because you are my name sake.  I have started signing Brenda C.
