Do anyone have puffiness round the ankles and foot of the operated leg? If so what to do about it?

Yes I had this for a few weeks.  Do the ankle pump exercises regularly and rest with your ankles higher than your chest for an hour every day.  Also walking around helps to keep the blood circulating.  I found that my skin felt tight round my ankles too, so drowned them in baby lotion and this eased them a lot.  The skin even peeled a little bit on my foot so the lotion helped with that too.  It lasted for about 8 weeks, but this is normal and it does go down eventually and my ankles look like ankles again instead of tree trunks!

Yes I do have a problem and it often feels tight around the back of the knees.  I just raise my legs on a pillow and it does calm it down a little.

I had my op on 22/2/2015 and am going to have physiotherapy and will ask then.  GP does not feel concerned.

Yes, Ruth! This is quite normal! I wore an elastic stocking on my leg but it kept unrolling over my foot. My toes felt as if they would burst.  It is a circulation problem and the more you move around the better it gets - though you do need to keep your leg elevated for an hour or so.  I'm sure it is less puffy when you wake up in the morning.  It was a real effort to walk on it, sometimes, but I persevered and it did get better! Next target - a walk around the block???

I have a bit if swelling in my ankle & knee on operated leg. Are you wearing the surgical stockings? I find they get really uncomfortable in the evening & try and have a foot soak & it does relieve it a bit.

Hi Ruth, yes I have this. I keep foot elevated in evening as this is when it's worse.  I also keep flexing foot. It's normally good in morning and swells as day goes on. It's getting easier now so think its just time.  The more mobile you are, the better the circulation.  Hope it improves, but don't worry x

This is normal. Drink plenty of water, use an ice pack and do your exercises. It will be gone before you know it.

    Hi Ruth

    This is fairly normal.

Plenty of exercise......moving about or actual exercises....but when you sit put your feet up.....even if its only on the settee.  I know they should be higher than your heart but i couldn never get comfortable like that.
