Hello everyone, having been diagosed with LS in AUGUST im on to my 3rd month of using my steroid now every two days. I had a flare up after my period over a week ago leaving my vulva quite sore and chaffed. Checked myself today as in agony and noticed two blistery sores where i put the steroid cream! Im wondering whether the the steroid has caused this due to the skin being chaffed? Have made an appt with my GP on WED

Hi Su, I wondered why you are still using the steroid after three months? Do you still have the white plaques of skin? What many women tend to do is use the steroid for as little time as possible, and so that may be a month or a bit longer, to quickly knock back the LS. Many use it twice a day to start with, for perhaps a week, then once a day for a week, then alternate days for a week, then perhaps twice a week. There is no hard rule because the white plaques of skin can be stubborn and take longer to go for some people.
Once you have got on top of the LS some women use it once a week for maintenance, but many choose to use it only when needed. Thats what I prefer to do.
The sores you refer to are one of the many symptoms of LS and so you don't need to worry. These sores often appear for many and varied reasons. It could be that you have eaten something your body is reacting to, or it could be hormonal or it may be that your body has had enough of the steroid cream and your reacting to it...
I would stop using the steroid cream for a while, especially if the white plaques of skin have cleared up. I also believe the steroid cream is too strong to use on sores/cuts/blisters and you are better off using something like Desitin baby bottom cream. The trick is to use a tiny tiny bit and then after a couple of days stop that and let the sores dry out..once they start to dry out then they will go away.
Just so you know many doctors and sometimes specialists aren't all that well informed with regard to LS and so they will immediately suggest a biopsy. Whether thats what you want to do or not is up to you, but I thought I should mention that.

Thanks Guppy, its what my gyne told me to do but i think your right i think its been maybe a bit too long with the steroid. I have just put some sudocream on to heal it and hopefully it will dry up. Them maybe try out some oils that some of the ladies have suggested. I was popping to GP( to see if she suggested stopping steroid for now) as i dont have my follow up with gyne till JANUARY!!
