Swollen finger joints for over a year with no pain???

Posted , 4 users are following.

Hey guys! Wondering if anyone has had a similar experience. I'm 25 years old and for about a year the middle joints on some fingers have been swollen. It's 3 fingers and they are symmetrical on each hand. However, there is no pain and no stiffness. But definitely noticeable swollen joints. And it's been like this for over a year. Due to the lack of pain or stiffness I have not felt it urgent to go to a doctor, but the swelling does not seem to be going away. Any ideas?

What is your diet like? Do you have a lot of salt or fatty foods?

Hello, thank you for responding! I actually eat pretty healthy. Lots of fruits and vegetables, cook at home, not overweight.... Don't eat a ton of salt or fat. And It's only the middle joint of my fingers that's swollen too. Rest of my finger is normal size. In fact if you look at the back of my hand it looks totally normal. You can only see the swollen joint from the palm side.

This is most unusual - that you can only see the swollen joints from the palm side 😏 and no pain!?!

I don't think you are on the correct forum - PMR is a muscle illness - not sure who you could ask for help.  The OA site might be better but our swollen joints are almost always seen on the back of the fingers and they are PAINFUL,

      Good luck!

Whatever it is Louci it is very unlikely to be the illnesses we talk about on this forum as they tend to occur in much older patients - some of us could well be your grandma!

It probbaly is worth asking your doctor - there may be a simple answer.

Hmm good points. Yeah, you guys are probably right. The strangest thing is that it can only be seen on the palm side, so strange. But thank you everyone for responding!!. smile
