Swollen Hands and Throat

I am taking 125 mg of Lyrica twice per day for stenosis in my left lower back and leg.  I have experienced a skin cracks in each of my fingers.  My hands do not seem swollen in appearance but could these cracks be a result of swelling.  Also, I have just notice that it is more difficult to swallow food.  Could that be swelling in my throat?  Any similar experiences?

From what you have said it may be that you are quite sensitive to this drug and particularly noting that you are finding it more difficult to swallow food. I would see your GP and report these issues as you may need to come off Lyrica. This drug was originally approved as anti-seizure medication but is now used off-label for many other conditions. It changes the brain chemistry and central nervous system within one week of taking it, altering the GABA receptors. I don't know if you have noticed any other side effects as well but if so note them down and tell your Doctor. I will add that it is a particularly hard drug to come off as the body becomes dependent on it although most Doctors will tell you that it is non-addictive and you can just stop taking it cold turkey. Whatever you do do not suddenly stop as this can cause seizures and dreadful withdrawals. The information about this should be on the leaflet accompanying the drug. It is best to come off at no more than 10% of dosage at a time allowing the body to stabilise in between drops. There is a video on YouTube showing you how to do this (Water Titration).

Please see your Doctor and talk things through - then decide what is the best course of action for yourself, bearing in mind that sensitivity can grow over time. Please post again and let us know how you get on and I wish you all the best.
