Swelling ALWAYS indicates that you pushed the knee too far.  Simple as that.  At eight weeks I walked with my daughter through a mall for a while.  That night, the knee was a balloon.  Checked my FitBit...8,200+ steps!!!  Never made that mistake again.

A FitBit or other pedometer is a great way to find out the number of steps it takes to cause the swelling.  Then you back off and increase gradually.  By 8 months, I was doing 11,000+ steps (5 miles).  Just takes time to get there.  Be patient.

    Hi

Maybe your body is asking for more time to heal.

    Good healing

Yup agree completely with Chico. You have overdone it . I did same thing at 4 weeks , then again at 6 weeks . Then I figured it out . Too much activity could mean pain and swelling. Then I just kept all my " activity " level for work and that was even a stretch. Keep icing and resting and elevating as much as possible it helped me immensely.

    Takes long time . I had partial 8 1/2 months ago .

12 weeks in I was doing very well, PT and excercises at home 3 times a day... bending and extension all good .... then problems ...felt stiffness ...within 10 to 20 minutes after getting up from sitting or riding bike, PT recommending skipping days for excercises... still stiffness .... joined the Y. Swimming ....still stiffness...  PT do not know why ..may be they said that I pushed too much at the beginning and experiencing a set back . Dr. Appointment on the 9th hopefully he will have an answer and a solution I will share with you.

Maybe you did push it too far but that usually results in swelling.  Did you get to 0 / +120?  If not, the stiffness could be more scar tissue that needs a PT's attention. However, before going that route...

You're only 12 weeks!  Stiffness can last 12 to 18 months!  It does NOT disappear overnight.  I'm 11 months and there's still some stiffness, especially after I sit at my desk for a while.  This is all normal.  Recovery takes a year...period.  Don't expect anything sooner...just gets in the way of your recovery.  If you happen to finish this faster, then great...just don't count on it.

Oh, and the clicking/clunking sounds?  Get used to them.  That's another 12-18 month experience.  Personally, I don't think the sounds will ever go away.  Small price to pay for being able to walk without pain.

Thanks, I had my right knee done 2 years ago, and do not remember this problem, went back to work with no problem, this time I fear I will not be able to. I knew not expect the same results but still ...why so much stiffness still.
