    Hi James,

i had a meniscal tear a couple of years ago.  Very painful.  My knee use to "lock" when I walked and the pain was awful.  I had an MRI which picked up the tear, then an anthroscopy to fix it.. The anthroscopy was done keyhole but bled a lot.  I was in hospital overnight and had 2 weeks off work.  I've since had bilateral  tkr's.   I had a very physical job as a Wardie ( porter) at a local hospital.  Tore my meniscus pushing someone around a corner on a bed.  Just felt it pop.  Unfortunately, after recovery from the tear, I went back to work and restore it.  I never had it fixed again because I got a blood clot first time round.  It seem to fix itself.  What with the arthritis, I didn't know what was causing what pain.  Sheeeesh!  Happy days.......... Not lol.

Hope this helps.  Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Hi, I had a meniscus tear a couple of years ago, while on the treadmill. My orthopedic surgeon diagnosed it from an X-ray . He chose not to repair mine, he said sometimes when u go in u just stir things up and cause more problems. I believe that was in 2012 . It was very painful at first , but eased up after awhile. I was never able to exercise the same way that I had been doing . In the end I became bone on bone in my left knee and just had a TKR on December 10th. I'm at 7 weeks tomorrow and am doing fairly well.

Hate to tell u ,but the meniscus tear is usually the beginning of what's to come! TKR.it is not an easy operation; though if ur young and fit it may be easier.

    good luck!

james damy is right be very slow to get the tear trimmed under keyhole surgery it does lead to problems and sooner rather than later ,i wish i didnt go there at 50 because by 55 i didnt have my own knees anymore .im not trying to scare you but its what happens im afraid . go see the surgeon but keep your options open ,because you are young other treatments may work for you physio will help strenghten the quads you might think your fit but maybe the muscles around the knee are not as strong as you thought ,the physio will be able to put you straight ,he would be my first port of call .the very best of luck and let us know how you get on

I have grade 2 hamstring pull/ inflamed tendons/IT band and bursa below knee. All have caused 10 weeks of being unable to walk, 2 weeks of having to sleep on my couch as I couldn't get upstairs. Was just horrific. My knee was so swollen...huge!! My quads weren't working. What made this all worse was I'd had a full knee replacement 2.5 years ago, had never had any problems. The cause.... I had a full hip replacement 12 weeks ago and the stress on my other leg( knee) was too much!!

So slowly I'm recovering but inch by inch! I haven't left my house in all this time except Physio/ultrasound, Dr's,Specialists. I've been to hell and just slowly coming back.

    Hope you're better soon!xx
