Hi Molly , I am 12 weeks post op now and was told to use crutches for 6 weeks .

sounds like you have done too much too soon.

we have to push ourselves but not too much.

try sleeping with. Pillow under your feet , it may help with swelling.

Are you having a lay down In day ? That certainly helps.

18 days is still early so take your time . You are going to have some pain you have been through major surgery .

obviously if you are still worried see a dr but what you are going through seems the same as others on here .

so listen to your body , do your exercises and rest .

    Good luck

Good morning Molly, Dont worry , I've got the same problem, I'm 4.5 weeks post op and still have swelling in the ankle and foot, called the Dr out  at 3 weeks because below my knee . ankle and foot was so swollen and painful, I was told it was the after efects of the op. and not to worry, my ankle and foot are still swollen and sore to touch, but not as bad, I put a ice pack on and raise my leg most days , that helps a bit. I started getting the odd pain shooting dowm my shin bone sometimes when I,m walking, but I thiink it will settle down in time. But hey, I,m much better off than I was before the op. Praise God.

Keep your chin up Molly, you;ll be fine.

Hi Molly, I am also in Canada and I am 5 weeks post of today.  I have been using the walking frame ,,crutches were not offered.  Pain and swelling could be from too much buzzing around,  you need to take it easy and rest with your feet up a couple of times a day. Also are you doing your exercises.  Remember you have had major sugery and your body needs to heal.  Also please check with your doctor.  One crutch seems a bit adventerous for just 18 days.

Sounds to me that you have done too much of the buzzing.  Take it more easy, because we feel so much better, we have to remember that our bodies have been through quite a lot and the insides take time to heal properly.  My leg and ankle were swollen too but having a lie down during the day with my feet raised slightly helps.  I would go back to 2 crutches for a time and maybe the pain in your hip will decrease and then you can start using just the one again, but don't be in too much of a hurry.  Good luck.

Thank you Brian..had my stitches out this morning..plus exrays and my doc says all is well and is going to prescribe a diuretic for the swelling. Still quite a bit of pain in the hip itself but if that's what it takes..then I'll take it

Glad everything went well at the Doctors and stitches removed.  Onwards and upwards from now on but don't rush it.  Good luck.
