I have swollen lymph nodes under jaw around the neck. I also have painful lymph nodes under armpits, collar bone.  I thinkthey are swollen everywhere. Still have no answers. But I have sore throat too.

    Hi Vicki,

First question. Are you sure they are lymph glands and not lipomas?

Second qu. Have you been tested for Hodgkins or other lymphomas etc?

I don't know what the difference between lymph glandes and lipomas?

?I haven't been tested and the dr doesn't seem concerned. I've had an u/s on my neck and apparently the lymph nodes are smooth and fine, and then blood test where my white blood cell count was low, then it has gone into the acceptable range.

      Hi Vicki,

A lipoma is a harmless tumour of fatty tissue.

The word "tumour" and the suffix "-oma" are both applied to cancers, but by no means all tumours are cancerous. The word simply means a lump. Lipomas are quite harmless. They can be removed if they're troubling you in some way - usually for cosmetic reasons - but this isn't medically necessary.

You can google both lymph glands and lipomas. There are many websites that give understandable, patient-oriented information on this and other topics. Examples are webmd and Mayo Clinic. Wiki can sometimes be useful too, but they often simply quote passages from highly technical medical articles, which might be difficult for a patient to understand.
