Hallo Anthony. Why does she/you think she has a swollen rectum? There are several different conditions that can affect ladies. Has she had any vaginal childbirth deliveries? How many? How old is she?

The rectum can start to protrude from the anus...is that what you mean? or can you describe what is happening

The lower part of the bowel can protrude into the vagina back wall and a lump can be felt...is that what you mean? This can cause a feeling of constipation.

She could also have a bladder prolapse, where the bladder falls back into the vagina front wall, but this should not affect her kidneys.

She could have a uterine prolapse, and some ladies can have all of the above conditions but again this should not affect the kidneys. Why do you think her kidneys are affected.?

The constipation could be a totally separate problem.

      Hi Marina-dee

She has been taking Fiber gel sachets two /three a day for years on the doctors say so , because of the tablets for her heart , that doctor said slows down her bowel movements , but never told him/her few different doctors over the years that she had been digging her poo out with her fingers , never even told me . , but she had had enough and asked to see a uroligist at hospital the first thing was to see a physio to do pelvic floor before they even looked , then few months later a ultasound scan . thats when found out about her colon and blockage , she then admitted digging out her poo , she had been having UTis . she also been drinking 2 liters water every day on advice of doctors to help her with pooing , The doctor ( a new doctor) said it is the swollen rectum ( pocket /pouch) that as been pushing on her vagina/uterus . and urethra that was quite dangerous to her kidneys , but it is only today she as had a explosion of poo in the toilet , by stopped taking fiber gel , and been given Mouicol sachets but think she went bit over board by taking 6 plus two Dulcolax tablets, so happy first time in years not have to dig .

Yes I understand now.She needs to try and moderate her laxative use to get a relaxed bowel motion once a day. Can you help her in this?.By gradually increasing the dose per day until its much easier? To have explosive motions is not good for her and will result in lack of tone to the bowel, and incontinence.

I dont know how old your wife is or what her heart condition is like but there are surgical procedures that can correct this situation. She may need to see a urogynaecologist, but do be advised by whatever doctors she sees.

      hi .Marina,..

Thank you, she can not see a gynaecologist for 4 months due to nhs backlog due to covid, but she has stopped the mouvicol , and she said she would sooner take the fiber gel plus lacteous ,it was to much the other stuff, she as a bad heart so doctors bit reluctant to operate she will be 73 in few weeks time,, but this just me, have you ever read about Acetylcholine Parasympathetic nerve system the vagus nerve for peristalsis of the bowel just me thinking allowed.

If you have got that phrase from Dr Google then please forget about it. If it has been suggested by one of the doctors then you need to ask them exactly what they mean in relation to your wife. The effects of the vagus nerve can be felt if the patient has extreme diarrhoea.....it can make the patient feel faint, cold and clammy...is that what you mean?
