Swollen Tonsil

I had a really bad chest infection back in November, and rode it out because i didnt want to go on antibiotics. My right tonsil became swollen at this time and was very sore. After loosing my voice etc I got better however since my right tonsil is still enlarged, but not sore and not causing any obstruction. My doctor checked it back in January 2017 and said it should go down, but it still hasnt. Is there anything to be worried about? The fact that its only 1 tonsil worries me.

I am a healthy 21 year old who doesnt smoke.

If it does not cause any pain or any other problems, then leave it as it is.

Hey ! So I was and is still in the same situation as you were i am also 21 and do not smoke I had my tonsils swollen for well over a year although there was no pain it had started to get infected and had puss on it and the rest so I had lots!!! Of antibiotics and none of them worked so long story short I had them removed in February although about 3 to 3 and a half weeks post op believe it or not my left tonsil that was giving me the most issues previously had grown back and got bigger as time went by I know this is apparently extremely rare to happen but I had it removed for a second time last week although the surgeon said he would send the tissue of for testing so I am a little curious as to what will come if that but to be honest this whole situation has taken a lot out of me and especially my time of work also and being that I had not planned for this to happen twice! I have been in continuos pain since the first operation but like I said what happened to me was extremely rare and will more than likely not happen to you the pain was not as bad as I had expected although it's not great but in my situation the pain when it grew back was insane and the second surgery was way worse than the first but luckily it was only 1 side that had to be taken out again I don't think I could handle both sides again! My advice for you is to keep an eye on it and if it starts to get infected or bothering you in any way than talk to your GP because after what I went through it's not worth it. So like I said I would just keep an eye on it and see what happens maybe it's still inflamed due to another reason maybe acid reflux or some other infection obviously I'm nit a doctor but I hope this helps 😊 all the best I hope you get some answers soon !

Thanks for your advice and help! Sounds like you've been through hell, especially with one growing back? that sounds very rare! I hope you find answers!

Im only worried because its just one tonsil and its been raised for 5 months now, no puss, no infection, and with websites saying it could be a sign of tonsil cancer i got worried!

      Good luck with your results!
