Swollen Tonsils For 3 Weeks With Virus - Anyone Else? I'm Going Mad!
Posted , 5 users are following.
Apparently I have a virus that is causing my tonsils to be inflamed for 3 weeks.
I've been test for strep and mono, and it's not those. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this problem?
They're not sore or causing me any trouble swallowing, but I am getting some dry mouth, bad breath and the odd nasty little tonsil stone too.
Any help greatly appreciated! I'm going mad.

Tuesday update: the night sweats returned last night.
I wonder if it's the weekend's alcohol coming out of my body, or I've just had another thought; I recently changed my bedding, all new duvet and sheet sets. Perhaps they're not breathing properly and/or making me sweatier than my old ones? (Just a random thought, not sure that explains the coming and going though).
After the sweats, that seems to kick something else off where I wake feeling absolutely cold and shivering too. Worrying stuff, and then of course my anxiety gets set off!
Still feeling weak/fatigued too and lost a little bit more weight, perhaps 1kg/2lbs but nothing major. It almost seems like my change in diet due to my "C" fears has ended up with me shedding fat, because I'm looking more veiny too.
Also had another of those tiny tonsil stones today as well.
This is my new thing for trying to keep positive, my "what's not wrong with me" list:
* I seem to have lost the dry mouth for the most part, I don't wake up feeling as though my mouth has been catching sand all night.
* I actually have no swollen nymph lodes. Finally got that idea into my head! Doctors think they're fine, I should too!
* I haven't had any stomach issues for at least a week.
* I can't remember the last time I felt nausea
* People still think I look healthy, despite my mind telling me otherwise

Made the mistake of looking in my throat again today, and it seems that the redness that was only on one side near the tonsils (whatever you call the skin in front of them) is spreading to both sides.
There's also a tiny red spot on one side now too.
Stop looking might be a good idea, will phone ENT tomorrow to see if they got my referral.

Tempted to go ER again to see if they can do anything else, any help or ideas?
Will try and get a dental appointment arranged too for sure, at least focusing on my oral health might give me something to take my mind off the rest of my body.

Hi,
Still so sick. Never seen such a virus in my life. Coughing till 3am then falling asleep exhausted. I have a yellow discharge from one nostril, don't know if it's an infection. So my symptoms doubled...
I have that redness in my throat on both sides too.
I don't think you have anything related to C. If you had any signs of C your lymph nodes must have been swollen.
Right now I need to see my dentist regarding the bone pathology seen on the xray and then I'll probably take antibiotics as the recent virus makes me believe I might have some hidden infection or inflammation in my sinuses. And sinuses are connected with upper teeth. I get the post nasal drip which irritates my tonsils.

Hey!
Wow, it sounds like you're going through far worse than me.
I haven't really had a cough at all, and I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing. I had some yellow-ish phlegm stuff yesterday too though! Came from the back of my nose. I've always felt an urge to clear that area in the morning since I was a kid.
Yeah I actually feel a little sore back there now, it seems to be spreading! I think the redness was only on the one side before. I've noticed there is what seems to be a papiloma on one of my tonsils too, it's not a tonsil stone because I can't get it out.
I certainly hope not haha! I might mention to the dentist that I'm going through a bit of a health scare right now and would like to be checked for any C signs if possible. My mouth definitely needs some work either way.
That's very interesting, I wonder if dental problems could have led me to where I am too? Will find out next week I guess. I've got the post nasal drip thing also, stopped taking the spray though because the side effects are things I'm already worried about. (Sore throat, weakness etc.)
Keep me posted! Would love to know how you're getting on.
My current symptoms today seems to be a return of the chills/feeling cold, tiredness (didn't sleep very well perhaps), weakness, and having some anxiety related symptoms due to finding out it could take months to see the ENT.

Quick Friday update:
* No night sweats again last night as far as I know. So they seem to be going
* Still woke up feeling somewhat shaky/panicky
* Still feeling super chilly, but it isn't exactly warm outside today
* Still feel a bit weak too
* Can't pop one of my ears
Have my dental exam next week, and now also a hearing test too. So will see if anything gets flagged up during both of those exams.

Haven't update this for a while so here it goes.
* Still feeling cold, but doesn't seem as frequent
* Night sweats seem to be going or aren't as frequent
* Still feel weak too
* Eyes look dark in the nose area, not bags but to the sides
* Feel fatigued still, which is worrying. Had 2 days where I spent about 10-12 hours in bed
* Still seem to losing weight slowly, but might not be eating enough
I still don't feel right, but also feel somewhat better too. Really weird!
Hearing test went well, all clear pretty much apart from one ear is slightly less "loose" than the other.
Dentist appointment soon, so hopefully that goes well too!
How are you doing Christine? If you're getting notifications...

Dentist appointment went well, no red flags on the oral cancer screening except they did mention some nodes seemed swollen, but also that they may be normal.
Not sure what to think of that, kinda kicked off some anxiety again but trying not to worry.
Seem to be getting chills/coldness again at the moment, but didn't seem to have that yesterday. (It started after some anxiety over the above I think).
No night sweats for a few days now though, as far as I'm aware.

Haven't posted an update here for a long time...
The virus is still with me, and now seems to be causing mostly IBS symptoms.
The lymph nodes in my neck have gone down, but I now have nodes in my groin that I can feel.
Nothing has been found wrong after so many tests though, so it must just be this weird/horrible virus lingering around for a long time.
How are you doing Christine? :-)

How are you doing? Sorry for replying you late, been busy with my mom, she came over to visit me here in Canada.
So basically nothing changed with me, swollen lymph nodes are still there, still getting bruises on my legs. I also came down with lynph node infection, it was so swollen and painful and now I’m on antibioics for it.
Hope you’re doing well!

Hey Christine!
No problem! That's nice that she came to visit you.
That's really weird! Have you had any further tests or anything done since we last spoke?
I'm still not 100%, but I *think* it's going/gone. Still got some nodes in my groin, still sensitive to cold and get hot sometimes, still sometimes feel a little weaker than I think I should too etc. But no real major symptoms.
I think it's the last phases perhaps, at least I hope so! So maybe I'm on the mend. Still waiting to see an ENT too though.
I'm much better than I was, that's for sure!

Nice to hear you’re doing better! I am much better as it’s summer now and it’s humid so the throat feels not that swollen. I still have that low grade fever 37-37.5C. This fever thing concerns me most of all. I also think it’s the main reason for my fatigue. There are rare days when I run normal temp 36.8C and I can definitely say On thosedays I feel full of energy.
I have the impression I have some kind of infection and not strong enough to be detected in blood tests but enough to make me feel fatigued all the time.
I haven’t hd any tests, only the recent throat swab for strep which was positive. But the strep is something not related to my issues.
I also hd two root canals done. And still scared to have my wisdom tooth out.
Take care

Hey,
Yeah, kinda better anyway lol. I'm enjoying the summer weather too, especially with my cold sensitivity.
I've seen a few people mention low grade fever of 37 on my research for answers, but then other places/people say that 37.5 is normal body temp? I'm not even sure what's normal there now to be honest. Mine has sometimes read as low as 35.5, but not sure if my thermometer is very good... I've not felt "normal" energy for a while now which kinda sucks, I feel heavy if that makes sense?
I get that feeling! Or that because my virus/bug hasn't been tested for that it could be something serious. If they said "yeah, you've got mega-lymphovirus" or whatever I'd feel a lot more better lol.
Positive strep? That sucks, but yeah that'd probably just be some sore throat I think, not all the other stuff.
My dental appointment went well, just 1 filling and a bit of cleaning and nothing to worry about. Root canal would terrify me! I think pulling teeth is easier? I've had them removed before and it isn't where near as bad as you might think!
You too! Please keep me posted, I'm getting notifications on the thread still.

You’re lucky you havent had root canals done! That’s the worst. They clean the roots and seal it. But there is chance that some bacteria might be left and the bone can be infected.
As a child I’d run a temp of 35.6C sometimes. My norm is36.3C . Who could guess that one day my norm would be 37.5C, sigh...
Did you take lots of meds in your life? Like antibiotics?

Don't worry, I made it up!
Just saying I'd rather know what I had than "virus and anxiety". Which virus!?!?! lol. I doubt it's a super bug, those things are really really nasty aren't they? These things we've had/got seem like long lingering nuisances.
I know that feeling too!
Yeah that sounds horrible!
I'd rather have them pulled tbh, doesn't hurt or anything from what I remember.
That's a good point! I don't even know what my "normal" is, but apparently 37.5c is entirely normal. I think fever starts at 38 or something. Not entirely sure on that anymore lol.
Nope, I only take a few supplements to make sure I'm getting Vitamin D and stuff. Not on any medication at all.
One other symptom I seem to be worrying about is fat loss, have you had any of that? It's not coming off my belly (sadly lol) but I seem to have lost fat in my arms and legs and have become extra veiny. Was just wondering if you've seen anything similar.
