Symptom Update Glandular Fever

Posted , 3 users are following.

Its been several weeks since i was diagnosed with Glandular Fever and i wanted to give an update om my symptoms

IN ALL HONESTY I AM STRUGGLING WITH HOW THIS HAS IMPACTED ON MY LIFE

I Know That might sound a bit dramatic but thats how i genuinely feel

  1. MY symptoms first manifested in my arms, i was told by doctors that this was unusual
  2. my right upper arm is still painful, painful to touch, i cant lift my tight arm up fully, it feels restricted at the shoulder
  3. My left lower arm is a real cause for concern, my arm feels very weak, my left thumb wont bend and my index finger although now moving it wont bend fully, sometimes it doesnt feel like it belongs to the rest of my body
  4. the backs of my thighs and knees feel very achy
  5. i have shooting pain on my right inner wrist, pain in my left palm

I Feel generally run down and am struggling to cope with how this has affected me, all my GP says is give it time, never addressed my lack of movement in fingers and arms, ive asked about nerve damage and this has been dismissed, all they say is GF is different with everyone

i cant help thinking that GF has triggered something else which is being overlooked

is anyone else experiencing similar symptoms and if so what are they and are thry getting better, worse, not changing

before this i was very active, today i tried to do one press up, couldnt manage, also i felt psin under my right armpit and accross my chest which i dont normally feel

any replies are appreciated as i am struggling with this

THANKS

    Hi James,

So sorry to hear that you've been having these terrible aches and pains in your arm with glandular fever. It really is a horrible virus and just want to let you know I empathise having been through a tough time with it many years ago.

It's so frustrating when doctors are dismissive of symptoms or not very helpful, I can relate to that too and I just want to encourage you that even though glandular fever is a horrible virus and can feel so intense with so many different symptoms, it does get better with time. I hope that these symptoms in your arm settle down, it's certainly worth getting a second opinion or speaking to a different doctor if the current one not being much help at all.

Muscle, joint and nerve type pain can certainly be symptoms of glandular fever as well as the awful fatigue, so try not to worry or panic although I know that's much easier said than done. Vitamins and herbs helped me a lot during recovery James, a good strong multi-vitamin per day (I take Immunace Extra here in the UK), a B complex vitamin and/or co-enzyme Q10 (can be great for nervous system and energy levels), higher doses of Vitamin C (1000mg-3000mg per day) and immune boosting herbs like siberian ginseng and echinicea. Of course always make sure to check for any interactions with other medication / conditions before starting supplements / herbs though, I'm no expert just going on my own research and the things that helped me when I was unwell with glandular fever.

These first few weeks after diagnosis in my experience were BY FAR the worst - things do get better James, hang in there you will get back to full health again with time, I do believe that. Don't hesitate to keep checking in with the doctor though to discuss concerns and hoping you can find one that can put your mind at ease. It can take a little time to get back to normal after this virus and don't panic if that's the case, because you truly will get back to full health again with a little time. God is our great healer. Thinking about you and message any time James, it's a great forum here with some good and kind people on here who know what it's like to go through this awful virus.

    Craig
