Symptoms after heart ablation

Hi. I had my ablation for svts 16 days ago and I'm having a lot of symptoms that are making me very anxious. I was told the procedure was a sucess. I've had a lot of palpitations and chest discomfort. Yesturday was a good day none at all but in the eve lots of palpitations, my heart rate dropped to 52 then went up to early 100s with lots of palpitations which lasted about an hour. Now I can't sleep and having lots of palpitations and feeling very anxious. Is this normal and part of the blanking/ healing process or could something be wrong? Thanks

Hi Karen, what is happening to you is similar to myself after an Ablation for AF. The procedure intentionally scars the heart wall and symptoms are likely to continue until full healing has ocurred. My Cardiologist said it typically takes three months for this to occur. In my case I was still improving at 5 to 6 months on. Some 3 years on I only get a few Ectopic heart beats, which is great compared to AF. So the conclusion is try not to worry, try and relax and be a patient patient. If you remain concerned, then contact your GP or Cardiologist to air your concerns. I wish you a good recovery.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. Your words are very reassuring. Good to know I'm not on my own with these symptoms. Shattered today after being awake worrying about it. I know I'm not helping myself or my recovery but it a vicious circle. Hopefully it will start to ease. Hope you are well now. Thanks again.

Karen- well done for having the ablation. Your symptoms sound normal. 3 to 6 months to heal. Try not to be anxious, take things slowly and definitely try to get enough good sleep. Listen to your cardiologist who said it was a success. Best wishes.

Hope your feeling better. Svt ablation 2 wks ago and the last 3 days have been horrible odd beats. Just turned in a 24 hr monitor today and waiting for results. It seems that this is somewhat of a common occurrence with this procedure so hoping it works itself out but this is very unsettling and scary. It almost seems that I do better if I workout or am active but if I'm quite I'm taking my pulse and feeling it which makes it worse.
