Symptoms reducing pred??

Posted , 6 users are following.

I have tried reducing in past with several flares (4 years PMR) now doing the dead slow reducing.  I am down to 10.5mg, but feel shaky, nauseas, (sorry spelling!) blurry vision, and just generally weak!  I also have fibromyalgia, but want to know if this is typical reducing symptoms.....Thank you for any advice

I have both fibro and PMR.  I register the PMR pain as a deep muscle pain, but the fibro is mre of a touch-sensitive pain.

However, if you are having visual problems of whatever kind, get to a doctor, a walk in clinic or A&E fast - it may be a symptom of GCA and no-one wants tha!

Thanks, i don`t have the problem of the pain... have it, and know which is which!.....it`s the other symptoms that I`m concerened about....but will keep an eye on the blurred vision, and deal with it quickly if need to...

Perhaps will go to doctors..(3 weeks wait!) in case it`s something else, it has been 2/3 weeks now....losing confidence how shaky I feel....family says it`s withdrawal symptoms!!......rolleyes

Possibly your blood sugar is too low. You could try eating fast sugars followed immediately with protein.. ie 4-6 oz fruit juice or regular soda, or 1 Tablespoon of honey, etc, and then a few peanut butter crackers or ham sandwich, for example. If this seems to help, you can eat frequent small meals, increasing your protein intake & reducing simple sugars.

It might be "withdrawal symptoms" as your family suggests, but some of those symptoms can be more dangerous than others. If it takes 3 weeks to get in to your doctor, I would go ahead & make an appt now. If the blurry vision & others don't stop, or if they progress at all (you start vomiting for example) you should go to an urgent care right away, and be sure to tell them you're coming off prednisone.

I don't really know, but I wouldn't have thought you'd have these kinds of effects at 10 mg unless you reduced very quickly and as you're following dead slow plan that isn't the case.  I could understand it more if you had been reaching into the physiological level of about 7 or even 8 when the adrenal glands have to start functioning again, and they can be a bit sluggish.

As the others said, better safe than sorry with the vision issues.  Better a false alarm than risk losing sight.

There may be some really straighforward reason for the way you are feeling.  Has your iron level been good?  Is your magnesium/calcium balance right?  Sometimes when we take extra calcium after starting pred we end up not getting enough magnesium and that can cause problems.

    Hope you feel better soon.
