Symtoms disappear when ill

How do you feel when you get common cold on top of your mono? Everytime Im about to get a cold I feel much more normal the day before getting ill. Also the first few days some of my symptoms go away. Especially the weird brain fog and I feel much more aware and me, almost like when I was healthy. This happened almost everytime I got ill, and I can predict if Im gonna be ill the next day if I feel alright.

My immunologist said it might be because the cold virus stimulates my immune system, but I found this happening with people who have cfs as well.

Same here. I usually say getting a cold feels like a vacation. No doc has been able to explain it but its very common in several groups I belong to (including cfs). For me it feels like my body gets distracted by a new virus and stops doing whatever it usually does that makes me feel so sick. I've had a 4 week cold and only just now is the muscle fatigue and pain settling back in.

sounds about right. If I didn't sleep well symptoms would park themselves somewhere....crazy stuff

If you are really that concerned about cfs, why don't you go and see a specialist.

One thing everyone here has in common is that we're all hypochondriacs.

We analyze every single thing we have which stresses your mind and body out.

So, if i were you i would go and see such specialist to rule cfs out.

Those specialists will also advise you not to check cfs forums or topics every day, because only the worst cases post on there anyway.

Hope you get your mind at ease, because from an unbiased point of view this is really dragging you down.

    Its a vicious circle.

      I am the worst case.

well there is no cfs specialist in my country. Also the first time I was evaluated by doctors they just send me this downward spiral of pushing through and crashing.

you are right though, obssesing over it is not healthy, but this time it was more of curiosity.

also hypochondriacs do not have any underlying medical conditions, whereas people here do. but I get what you mean

You do know there is no way to prove CFS or disprove it all they can do is say you fit the criteria not know if you have a virus or bacteria or body problem that is fixable or not. It is usually diagnosed when doctors run out of ideas kind of like when they tell you its just anxiety or depression. Thats why there are places like the Mayo clinic that can actually diagnose complex diseases and tell you why you feel such a way.

Hi Lob: Interestingly I have not had a cold in 6 months, which I find odd. I live in Minnesota and normally would have had a couple colds by now with seasonal changes.

I was thinking about the same thing myself. But I figured that humans have a great ability to see patterns, even where there is non. So I thought it might just be a coincidence. I have been sick for 8 months now, I am guessing it is the EBV still, as it started with mono. But i have had three periods where the disease has been almost gone, an all three periods started with me being sick with something else. Strange, but I guess this is a thing then :p

heya, my personal theory is that the body start to release different cytokines to fight a cold, instead the ones with ebv. And ultimately its just the bodys response that makes up the symptoms, not the actual virus mostly.

Hi 😃 Yea, that makes sense to me. Just would have thought you wold get the symptoms from both decides, not just the new one though... Oh well, the body and its ways

Just had a month with a sore throat, and almost all my mono symptoms went away. It was wonderful. Now the sore throat has passed and I crashed hard with strong mono symptoms again. I hate this!! What is it? Do i have cfs? It has been 13 months now. I am not suicidal, but i honestly must say that living with mono for the rest of my life does not sound like something of an option.

i think i know why. I can be feeling really bad and tired and fevering, but if I start doing something or get excited I dont feel it anymore. I think its because of the activation of sympathetic nervou system. Now when youre ill it stimulates that part of the system, as well as immunity , so you dont feel it. Actually I started doing more lately, and feel better. Before when I felt bad I just rested infinitely. Now I try to do something and after a bit I no longer feel as tired. Also my tonsils start to feel weird, but I just think that the activity activates my immunity, whereas when Im laying down all day its down as well.
