Tachycardia and Stomach Bug

Hello,

I was in pain all night and felt sick, then I woke up this morning with a resting heart rate of around 140 and diarrhea. Is it normal to have such a high heart rate when you have the stomach flu? I haven't had it in a long time, so I don't remember. I can barely move and haven't attempted eating. Any help is appreciated.

-Thank you

It seems like lately certain viruses have caused me palpitations lasting from days to a week or two. Several friends of mine claim the same problem too. We have been checked out for heart problems but all was normal.

    The vegus nerve

runs from stomach to heart and more. When the nerve gets irritated as with tummy troubles it can sometimes trigger the nerve to cause some erratic heartbeats. As far as fast heartbeat I'm not sure but it wouldn't hurt to get an EKG to put your mind at ease. Best of luck and do get well.

I haven't heard of a high heart rate with stomach flu; I have not experienced this with gastroenteritis. I would see your doctor for advice if no better after one week.

You need to get medical help. You could have pancreatitis.

    Hi there,

If I were you I think I would phone 111 and ask their advice.

They can make an appointment for you to see an "out of hours" GP in an A&E dept locally to you.

    Good Luck
