TAH - how long were you in hospital and how long for driving?

I got a day for surgery for removal of my large cyst (22cm) and total abdominal hysterectomy.   I was wondering how long other people have been in and how long it will be before I can drive again.     I'm having open surgery with possible cut from above navel to pelvis.

Hi I am almost 6 weeks post op for having a 32cm cyst and my left ovary removed using open surgery. It was decided the day before surgery I was to have a lower transerve cut. I was in hospital for three nights but was estimated two nights. I was allowed to drive 4 weeks post op. I am still off work but hoping to return part time within the next ten days. Xx

Hi Eleanor. Thank you for your reply.   Are you feeling better as you seem to be having a rough time from your previous posts?  Hope you get back to work soon.   xx

I'm three weeks post op. I have a "seam" from my rib cage to my pelvis vertically. The surgeon said the cut is healing well so I was just o.k.ed to drive yesterday. The worst part has been no vigorous activity for 6-8 weeks, which includes things like vacuuming, mowing the yard etc. The house looks gross. Oh and no lifting over 10lbs, for 6-8 weeks, that has really sucked when you are forced to think about how little 10lbs is.

Yeah, mine was able to get off work for most of the pre op, surgery, and hospital stay. But not the rest of the time. Four weeks is awesome, you'll have lots of help. It will make things easier for sure. Right after the surgery even standing too long would hurt my back and core, so he can cook for you and do all kinds of good stuff.
