My friend has suggested i try Tai Chi, as she said it is a good way to learn to releax, and as i did Karate before pred days, she said it would help so i thought here goes another day out.

Margaret, it is an excellent exercise, especially if you can find a Tai Chi instructor who includes the Qi Gong element.  It worked well for me over a period of time, helping to restore my balance, and it seemed nothing short of miraculous when I suddenly found at one class that I could now raise my arms straight up above my head again.  Great weather here in the south east as well, but not quite as scorching as a couple of days ago, thank goodness.

Hello Mrs O, my friend said the instructor does Qi Gong but for mature students, but i will give it a go as i do a lot of walking, but not enough i think so this may help me.

As MrsO has said, you need an instructor who does Qi Gong.  We had such an instructor to a Support Group meeting and she explained that there are quite a few types of Tai Chai but Qi Gong was best for PMR people.

The Qi Gong movements are easier to learn and quite basic - you are quite right about best for PMR peaple.

I agree about Qi Gong being easier to learn - Tai Chi can really test those little brain cells can't it!

Hi Margaret,  I also started Tai Chi recently and have found it very beneficial for gentle exercise and relaxing.  I was, in the dim and distant past, a member of the RAF Judo team so understand some of the concepts. If you check for a Dr Paul Lam, a physician from Australia, there are a number of DVD's aimed at various levels of fitness and disabilities, but it's not easy to learn without a local instructor.  Some of the basic Qi Gong are easy to learn and do.

Hi Oregonjohn, thanks my  friend thought this was good for me, as i loved doing Karate and miss it, so she this could be the next best thing. I will look up Dr Paul Lam, many thanks

      Hi John,

You can google Dr. Paul Lam and there are free videos on YouTube that you can review and follow along with if you like.  I know Qin Gong not Tai Chi but they seem very well done.

Good morning everyone,  finally got up after several times waking up during the night !  But hey that's the way it goes.  Poor dogs needed to get out for their walk.....plus it's pouring rain!

Margaret, think Tia Chi is a great idea.  Go for it. Movement is always good in moderation.  Tried to clean the bathroom yesterday and had to rest 3 times...still not finished!

Excellent choice, Tai Chi is very meditative also

which is good for the psych.  Good luck.

Whilst I'm on this site I wonder if anyone is having trouble with excessive

bruising (not the right word because I don't hit anything).  It happens at

night, a pain shoots down my leg and wakens me and I have a mass(ankle

to knee sometimes, or blood blister l"x3/4") of blood under the skin.  It takes

several weeks to go away only to recur in the same or other leg.  Twice I was

told by a vascular doctor that it was due to prednisone and my reumy confirms

this.  As I am now down to 3 or 4 mgs of prednisone daily I thought this would

recify itself.   Thanks for any information on this.  Diagnosed Nov. 2013, took

20mgs prednisone and got down to 10mgs quite well but from l0 it has been

a slow but successful journey except for this bleeding.  Thanks again.  Judy.

I've been told the same thing by my doctor - all down to the steroids. If I bruise myself or cut/scratch myself in the garden I get what looks like blood around the cut under the skin, it takes a while to heal and I have been looking if I have been beaten up!!  I'm at 8 mg.
