Tail end of VN or???

Hey! 8 weeks ago I woke up in the middle of the night with vertigo. I have been in and out of hospital having all sorts of tests including a CT scan which all came back clear. They put it down to a viral inner ear illness and as I never had hearing loss my guess is VN. I'm driving again and back at work etc but I still feel slightly off all the time. When I close my eyes I sometimes feel as if I'm spinning. I was having awful headaches but haven't had them since I started my anti depressant tablets to treat the anxiety VN left me. I feel quite tired all the time and my chest feels tight (maybe anxiety)? Iv been on anti depressants for nearly a week. I haven't had vertigo in about 6 weeks but I find busy shopping malls make me feel off and also places with weird lighting. Am I coming out the other side now? I'm not sure if I feel off because of the anxiety or VN? Just want to feel 100% again :-(

I am newer to this than most people on here, only on my 4th week with diagnosed VN (although I have an MRI in a couple weeks, just to be safe). I was out drinking with my wife on May 13th. I woke up the next day and had to stop in at work. While driving I got horribly confused as to where I was and my legs went cold and sweaty. Then the spinning started. I was able to pull over before a very short blackout. I managed to get to the ER and they said it was just a panic attack and dehydration from drinking the night before. In the next 2 weeks I was back in the ER and at my GP twice before getting a referal to an ENT/VRT specialist.

Week 3 I just woke up and it 90% better. Just like that. However, I have and still am having anxiety "episodes" almost every day any time I get off balance or my vision gets shaky. I felt like my my 4 month old daughter hadn't really interacted with me the entire time because I felt so detached even when I was functioning enough to help feed her and play with her I felt like I wasn't really there.

It is week 4 now and I DO feel better, but not great. I have bad hours rather than bad days. I have a very technical job in neurosurgery research that requires immense concentration and I was still able to go to work this week. I'm only 29, maybe that has to do with my fairly speedy recovery. Just wanted to tell my short story so people in their first week might get some hope. In week 1 I thought my life was over. I felt very dramatic, and the experience has really humbled me as to the health problems, both visible and invisible (like this one) that other people have to deal with.

On to your latest replies, I 100% agree that getting sick after recovery causes symptoms to return, ESPECIALLY if it's in the sinuses or ear. My entire household now has the common cold, myself included, and my anxiety, vision problems and nausea have returned, albeit much less severe than before. I'm taking 1mg of Xanax at bedtime to make sure I sleep through the night and can get through this back to recovery.

Very sorry you're experiencing this. Sounds like classic VN. The vestibular rehab therapy works. It's a dreadful condition. Glad you're making progress
