Tailbone injury - how much longer before healed?

On January 1st, I injured my tailbone from falling down the stairs. Xray confirmed that it was not fractured, however 7 months later, it still hurts and at times, just as much as it did when it was first injured. What is the expected healing time? Should I be doing anything else besides resting it when I can (by not putting pressure on it) and using a cocyx pillow when sitting? Will it ever NOT hurt?

(I also have a history of inflammation in my joints - sacrolliac dysfunction and sciatic nerve issues before and after fall)

    Hi,

I did exactlyh the same and it seems an endless atime before any pain goes away.  If you are concerned go back to GP and ask for a follow up xray. Many many years later I have 3 prolapsed discs caused by this.  Hoping yours is not the same.  Good luck and good health.

hi I had a fractured coccyx years ago and it took a few months to clear up. Have you had your vitamin D level checked, if low can impair healing.

I had a fall that broke my pelvis in 2 places. My tailbone felt sore and bruised then. it is now 3 months later and I'm starting to learn to walk again, but my tail, sacro-iliac area is unchanged, sore and feeling bruised, even when on a soft mattress. I hope it fades away for both of us!
