Taken off Sertraline

So after supposedly doing well, I got taken off Sertraline by the doctor. He didn't even suggest trying to persevere.

I am suffering from chronic sinusitis awaiting a CT scan and surgery this month however the side effects (dizziness mainly) just got to much to deal with from both.

The thing is now, since stopping. I feel dreadful

I have this crazy headache I can't describe properly, my head just feels so heavy and like someone is blowing on my neck. A lot of tension as well combined with sinus pain. It's like a migraine but not as severe.

Another problem is that I have bad tinitis now, this was definitely bought on by Sertraline. How long was it before this went away after stopping? It's oddly disturbing.

Stomach has finally settled down though and appetite is back.

I have a lot of shakes, sweats, flu like symptoms and night sweats and just very fatigued. I slept for 14 hours yesterday!

I am amazed that a week and a bit can do this much to you!

When will it all settle down again? rolleyes

Hang in there and things will get better. I hope you were weaned off slowly. You have classic symptoms that will calm down.

Hopefully you went off over a couple of weeks, 😒, shouldn't just stop it

He told me to just stop. Thinking I must be over the worst of it now but I havent got out of bed today through tiredness rolleyes

      It's rubbish this stuff!

Not good advice from the GP? Tell them how hard it hit you and how many folk have said they needed to be weened off gradually. However they might know that your other problem needed to be sorted without other meds; that's a possible reason for immedite stop?

Yup, it is rubbish and you will beat it, but may I just say that in a few weeks time you will feel totally different, positive and less pained and so look to that matey. Hang in there and don't be afraid to take some pain killers if you are allowed those for the Sinusitis etc?

The annoying thing is, Sertraline was working. It was just the dizziness that was to much for work. Going to have to try them again next month and to through the first week again rolleyes

Push yourself to get u, shower, and have a walk, it will make you feel better. I just did that as I know it is better than the couch. It is the meds making you feel bad, must try to fight it

Yup, you won't want to go out but even if it is only ten minutes it will help as will drinking something good when yoiu feel nauseaus and then actually eat something light as well. I felt so horrible I hardly had any food except soup for about 10 days. Lost nearly half a stone though and that is beneficial for me. best wisshes matey.

I'm so sorry you are going through this. I'm weaning my 14 year old off this now she was on for 4 months with horrible results. Her depression got worse, she felt numb detached disconnected and like she meant nothing. It's been a ride for 4 months and all she says is "I just want to feel normal again". Hoping once this poison is out of her system she will start to get some feeling back in her soul. I've never heard of coming down w tinnitus due to Setraline, lots of things I need to be aware of, thank you.

How long were you taking Setraline? I pray your journey off this poison will be successful.

Bless you swoopt and your daughter who must be a brave young woman. I also pray that she finds peace in life through Mindfulness and relaxation as well as beautiful experiences and lovely food.

She will overcome the disconnect, you can be sure of that.

All the very best to you both.

Oh, that's just horrible! Most doctors don't believe that even a weeks worth of the med can have much affect, but it does. You said that you want to try it again next month. I'd recommend seeing a psychiatrist rather than a gp for that.

The tinnitus could be from the sinus problems or the meds, it's hard to say. I've told you about my sinus issues and upcoming surgery, but I've definitely had tinnitus without being on sertraline.

To help with the sinus congestion, keep a humidifier by you at all times. If you really want it blast, add a bit of salt. I add liquid Vicks, a touch of salt, and let it blast.

Hopefully a humidifier will help with the sinus congestion, which will help with the dizziness and tinnitus.
