Taking 200mg Oxycontin and trying to cut down

I have a chronis condition with my bladder called interstitial Cystitis. I have surgery on my bladder every 4-6 weeks, I have poly cystic ovaries and awaiting surgery for a pretty big cyst, and finally I had reptured bowels during a C section and ended up in intensive care for a fortnight and out of surgery with a colostomy bag. So basically I am in constant pain with my bladder and just now my ovaries. My bowels plays up now and then but nothing consistent. I started of taking tramadol, then the pain got worse and my GP put me on short tec and long tec which really helped, but the problem is that I have to keep raising the dosage. I started by taking 20mg twice a day and I'm not taking 80mg twice a day with short tec in between. This does help with the pain but I'm worried I become addicted. I really want to stop them, but when I miss a dose I really get awful withdrawl with from them and I'm in a lot of pain in my bladder. Does anyone have any advice on similar problems or help to cut back? Should I just deal with the pain and get off them or just stick with them and try not to raise the dosage any higher. My consultants are all worried about opetating on me as I'm apparatly higher risk due to the issue with bowels. I have had a colostomy reversal but really do not want to have the bag back. The Gynocologist has said I may just have to be on pain killers for the rest of the forseeable as there is no cure for my condition. The withdrawl symtoms are just absolutly awful, I'm having sweats, muscle ache, awful anxiety, tears, major mood swings (they're the worst) just want to know how to get over this, its really getting me depressed. Would love some help and advice if anyone has taken Oxycontin long term. Thanks in advance.

Hi sorry to hear of your problems, living with chronic pain is really difficult but just like everything else you have good days and bad. A little about me first, I've been taking opiatesFor almost 25yrs now, started on a low dose and gradually built up to 860mg of Mst, changed to OxyContin back to msg back and forth, just a few years ago the pain clinic used to say that we wouldn't get addicted, now they've changed their minds so they would like us all to cut down like you I can't do it but not because of withdrawals I don't seem to have them but because of the pain. So basically that's me however I do have a few tips for coping when the pain is bad, distraction is the key e.g. If you like to read then put an audiobook on you device put your headphones in and listen or music, find a really stupid addictive game and do that at the same time, the more you can distract your brain the less you feel the pain. Relation is also important as us in pain hold our selves very tight which makes your muscles tired making more pain. If you have young children then forget housework and play games with them again distraction, if there's adults around then get them to talk tell you about their childhood anything, just distract you.. for me it helps if I visualize my pain as a piece of paper in my head when is smooth and flat the pains right up there so I mash, kick, jump, thump this paper into a tiny ball and stamp it into the corner of my brain, as it tries to open I mash it up again, I know this sounds a bit mad but with a little perseverance and practice it does help.
i hope some of these help for you and wish you well

I have a big suggestion that will really help. Get a referral to a physical therapist that does pelvic floor physical therapy for bladder issues. This therapy should take at least 3 months, it will be very painful to go through, but in the end you will have a much less painful bladder. Once that happens, you won't need so much narcotic medication and cutting back will actually be a realistic option. Right now it isn't, you do need pain meds. To cut back, you need to get rid of some of the sources of your pain. I have been through the pelvic floor PT this past year, it was NO walk inn the park for sure, but I am now pain free down there, where as before I felt like there was a bonfire going on down there all day and all night. I peed every 30 minutes day and night. It was awful. I can now sleep up to 4 hours nonstop.

Hi, I've been on the dreaded OxyContin (Longtec) for ten years now and although the dosage is small, 10mg at 9am and 9pm, I suffer terrible withdrawal symptoms, usually starts within a few hours of missing my 9am/pm slot! When I told my doctor I wanted to come off it, she said she couldn't help and referred me to a drug rehab clinic.
I wasn't too impressed but I am desperate to get off these damn pills. I read somewhere recently that Oxy is 2.5 times stronger than morphine- no wonder it's hard!!
I start my detox at the end of June, I will try and let you know how I get on and what they did to help me. If they only get me onto a different pain control that I can wean off later by myself, I will be very happy.
