Taking Azathioprine with Crohn's Disease??

Posted , 3 users are following.

I've been on azathioprine for over a year now for my crohns...but to be honest I'm not really sure that its working?!

I'm having regular flare ups and the slightest little thing will set it off...

anyone found this medication to be successful eventually? or anyone else found it doesnt work for them?

I know for some it may work fine but I have tried mentioning to my doctor the problems I'm having but they dont seem to think I need to change meds or treatment....

I am taking 150mg of azathioprine per day...

opinions welcome 😃

thanks glynn. that's interesting because I keep getting sore throats on and off. just when I think they're gone they come back...

my sister has crohns too and she has infusions done every 8 weeks. I know my doctor had mentioned about possibly changing over to biologics, so maybe that's what I need.

      thanks for your help.

    Hey,

I too was put on azathioprine when first diagnosed with Crohn's and had a mixture of the meds not doing what they should of and i also suffered from vomitting and migraines every single month like clock work. Is your medication prescribed via your GP or a specialist from the hospital?

I would ask for a blood test and stool sample for them to check your CRP and calprotectin as this will confirm if your crohns is active and therefore causing you to constantly flare. Just keep pushing them if you don't feel your meds are working. Hope they manage to sort something for you
