Taking Citalopram feels like taking a bad ecstacy tablet!!

I have just started taking Citalopram last night and I have never felt so ill!!!!

Felt sick within an hour after taking it then couldnt sleep all night as my heart was racing and I felt like I was going to be sick. Started getting the sensation like I was on Ecstacy but a really bad 1..........kept getting rushes of hotness through me, was clenching my jaw and when I went to the toilet and looked in the mirror my pupils were massive!

When I eventually got some sleep I woke back up feeling the exact same way and felt very very anxious, fidgity and scared!!

Im scared to take another pill tonight now as I dont want to go through this again or have even worse side effects!

Anyone else feel scared of taking them after this?

xx

hey, dont worry (!) the first couple of days are the worst, you will feel like you are totally wasted for the first week at least then things should stabilize. i take mine in the morning so i usually get all the jitteryness out of my system before i go to bed (and i still dont sleep til about 2/3am) i've been taking cit for about 6 weeks and was starting to feel the benefits until i got ridiculously drunk and vomited up my pill the next day now i feel like i'm back to the start with the side effects. keep your sugar and salt levels up you will be amazed how much that helps and stay hydrated. i'm sticking at it, probably going to get my dosage increased this week but i think it is worth it in the long run.

Stick at it, Citalopram does take some getting used to at first, the first 2-3 days are the worse. Your sence of smell will be hightened and you may use your appetite but I promise you that after 2weeks or so you will feel great!

    All the best

I started taking Citalopram on Monday around 5pm, and i am now on day 4 and have really not felt that bad at all. When i first took the tablet i felt chilled out and a bit spaced ( not a bad feeling). I went to sleep fine that night and have had a great night sleep ever since. I am having better sleep than i ever had before. I find taking the tablets at around 5pm are perfect for me, dont feel that sick at all. Feel a bit sick when i lie flat in bed but it does go.

While at work i have been feeling a bit chilled but not that much. Been feeling a bit down but thats to be expected for first few weeks.

I was so scared to take the tablets at first but its really not that bad. I thought it was going to be really scary but its not.

I was on citalopram a few years ago and had the same experience. I felt like I was on ecstacy for about a week. I told my doctor and pharmacist, and they both told me they never heard of this before. My jaw was clenching and I had the rushing feeling all the time. I would however prefer this feeling over the withdraw when coming off them. That is the feeling of zaps of electricity starting in my brain and shooting down to my toes.

I just started this (10mg) and was told side effects would be dry mouth and a bad taste and headache maybe. Well, I have dry mouth and a bad taste, and I'm spacing out, when I sit a listen to music my head feels light and my eyes are swimming around. I have though lapses when trying to do things. It feels like I'm on MDA mixed with dirt. If coming off it feels like electricity zaps out of my brain to my toes as someone mention, I gotta get off this crap.

I've taken it 3 days and literally in 30mins if felt sick like I took a bad pill. Day 3 is worse and I have things to do. it was suggested to take it at Bed time if I don't like the feeling and I also have a sleeping aid that works great. I don't sleep in and fee rested!

I'm only mildly depressed and recently haven't been able to manage my anxiety. But this is why I always avoided psych drugs. I asked about CBDs and THC as cannabis helped in the past and the doc I spoke to said "oh that's for serious pain and people with cancer, long term it can cause anxiety". Shows how little they still know medical yet (or are willing to admit). Anyone who has used it long term would know better. I used to self medicate with some low THC outdoor and was great. I had to smoke it as there wasn't another way for me to take it and make sure I got the right amount, but, two hits from the bong, at 10 AM and 6PM was perfect to keep me okay all day and not falling asleep stoned because any time I go to bed stoned I wake up groggy.

I wanted to try the CBD as it has great reviews and no side effects, and no high, but no, now I'm on some crap that is messing me up. I haven't used drugs in over 5 years and didn't want to get high, let alone a nasty high. Why are they allowed to prescribe this crap? The reality is, all psych drugs are relatively new, psychiatry is realativly new.

It funny how they consider age old medications "unknown" and make up laws to make them hard to confirm their therapeutic value. I fee discussing right now. At least I'm not the only one. This thread is old too.

This is totally normal. If I restart meds (been on and off for 15 years) I get this side effect from about 20mg. For me it normally passes after the first day or 2. DEFO avoid caffeine when you first start/restart, I had a strong pre-workout and it was exactly the same as molly but without the euphoria. Hooe this helps anyone reading l
