Taking Diazepam for the first time to treat anxiety

Posted , 4 users are following.

My doctor has just  given me diazepam 2mg and Sertraline 50mg to treat my anxiety . I only plucked up the courage to take it about 2 hours ago. It has calmed me down quite a bit but I still feel some of my usual anxiety sensations in chest area. Does diazepam only take some of your anxiety away, or does it take a few days to kick in,  has anyone had the same experience?

    Hi Roz, I would say that diazepam should lessen the symptoms in that you just generally feel calmer overall. I don't think it eliminates the physical symptoms as much as it affects your psychological self. It just relaxes you. Hope this makes sense. It's short acting, and so wears off after a short period. Thanks Donna, the diazepam has wore off now,  I had some anxiety palpitations after about 3 hours as the tablet was wearing off. I am calm now , I plan to start taking the sertraline from tomorrow with the diazepam and expect the anxiety to worsen for a while, hope I can stick with it.

    Hi;

    I have been on Zolift for one week now. The first week O had heightened anxiety which is common when starting an SSRI. Today is the first day I feel less anxious. Zoloft is prescribed for anxiety also unlike other antidepressants. I am also on Xanax to help with the increased anxiety and find it only takes some of my anxiety away. It takes time for the Zoloft to build up in your bloodstream to a therapeutic level. Don't give up on it. Wishing you all the best!

      Many thanks Celia

      I feel much better now, I will start the Sertraline tomorrow along with the diazepam, I'm apprehensive about it as I know it will heighten my anxiety for a couple of weeks but I hope to be brave and stick with it.

    Sorry that you are going through this! I have taken medicine for anxiety but haven’t had great luck. The best thing for me is larazapan only when I suffer terrible from panic or anxiety. My doctor said that it takes a month or two for it to kick in most people turn from it because it worsens anxiety before it gets better. The last batch I was on made me feel crazy and one night my feet got so hot I thought they were going to catch on fire. I decided to stop the medication.

    I am taking 15 mg diazapam daily . It does help to calm you down and not only a few symptoms but ALL. however , I advice you that not to take it on a regular basis but take it only when you really need it as it is very addictive and is hard to come off after you depend on it .
