I'm really struggling to lose any weight and its really depressing now :-( I try and do exercise about 3 times a week (work depending).  I use to be so fit and healthy until after having my daughter I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism and now struggling.

Anybody got any tips????

    Hi Hackers!

As a fellow under active thyroid sufferer I share your anxieties about weight loss, but since last September I've persisted in walking as much as possible and now, as well as having lost just over a stone (!!) I feel so much better as a result. My mood and the ability to get around far more easily has given me the boost to never go back - I urge you to do all you can and you'll soon be feeling the benefits too! Remember, even during work hours, where possible, pop out and do a flight or two of stairs, it soon adds up - honest!

    All very best wishes, Sue.

Thank you for your response.   Its dreadful I use to hear people talk about having a thyroid problem.   I just feel like I'm moaning all the time if that makes any sens.

I've started walking up the stairs at work and have started my outdoor training again.

Excellent news! Keep hard at it and, where possible, do at least a 30 minute session every day - even if it's a few short burst sessions adding up to 30 mins. Then increase it a little more and so on, believe me, once you start to feel that first bit of benefit....you KNOW you can beat a thyroid problem! Eat sensibly too mind, I stick to a healthy diet that I won't tire from as it works best for me. You'll get there...never give up! Best wishes, Sue

Hi Hackers, exercise is great, but you need to do a lot of exercise to lose weight if you haven't changed your diet. It's very important to change what you eat. I have always found a low carbohydrate diet easy to follow because it's filling and filled with healthy foods. Ever try South Beach? Paleo is my absolute favorite! I have more suggestions if interested. I have weighed as much as 255 twice in my life and now maintain 142 and am 5'7". It can be done 😊

Thank you for your response.   Before having my daughter I use to do outdoor training 3 times a week.   Since suffering with my thyroid its hard to lose the weight.

I've never heard of Paleo so would be interested to hear more and also South Beach?

      Thank you.

What are your current eating habits?  Do you have a workout plan that you have been trying?

Hi ..I too suffer from hypothyroidism after the birth of my son and I am also trying to lose weight...just remember that people with hypothyroidism have a Low BMR that is basic metab. Rate so try to work out daily ,eat less than 2000 cals ,30 mins are needed to maintain your current weight whereas anything above that helps in weight loss, increase your BMR by doing strength training I.e. Lifting weight etc, drink green tea, lots of veggies and last but not the least sleep well..
