Taking me off painkillers!

Hi guys, my doc has me attending a pain clinic who are trying to reduce my cocodamol when i really need them. They used to be on repeat and this pain clinic is a new thing at my surgery. I ordered my tablets last week and my prescription got lost online. By friday i had no tablets left and was told doc would leave me an emergency supply for over the wknd but when i went to pharmacy this morning there was nothing. Ive been upset yesterday and today about this which makes my pain worse. Ive to phone the pain clinic on monday to beg for a 2 week supply of cocodamol and this is every 2 wks ive to do this. Im at my wits end and dont know what to do. Anyone else struggling to get help? Sometimes i just want to kill myself. No support for pain at all.

Hello Sophielu,
That is cruel what they have done. I haven't heard of pain clinics at GP practices before. I hope it won't become the norm. My head doctor gave me Tramadol a few months back. Just a months supply. I have codeine on repeat. But it doesn't help most of my pain. I have been at the end of my tether and very depressed because of my neck in constant pain 24 hours a day for the last 4 months. I am still waiting to hear from a hospital what is causing all the trouble. My senior GP is on holiday. I saw a younger doctor, but he wouldn't give me any more tramadol, which did help a bit during the day. I really wanted a steroid injection in my neck. But only the senior doctor is trained to do this. Instead he increased my Naproxen to the maximum dose. Not only has this been unhelpful, but I feel very let down. Because my neck is causing me insomnia, this in turn increases my anxiety, makes fibromyalia worse and make me fatigued. I really don't think most GPs care. They have no understanding on how badly our lives are affected. They worry about addiction too much.

I'm sorry to hear of your pain issues. I wonder if you have considered approach and that is to see a chiropractor.
Good. luck. Richard

Sorry that my message came through distorted so here it is again.
I'm sorry to hear of your pain issues. I wonder if you have considered a totally different approach and that is to see a chiropractor. This has often worked for me when the conventional approach has failed
Good. luck. Richard

Hi Richard, I"ve never heard of a chiropractor being able to help someone with Fibromyalgia. Please enlighten me.

Hi, yes I totally agree with you. They don't care or understand. I've got muscle relaxants called Robaxin that help but one doc will give u them and another doesn't. Again they monitor what they give u due to addiction. I ended up getting some over the counter in Spain which I brought home but you've obviously got to watch. I think if you are on methadone you have no problem getting repeats. Good luck with ur neck. Pain is a horrible thing. It just pulls you down. I try different doctors because maybe one day ill find one who understands lol.

I'm not for one second suggesting that a chiropractor can cure your FM but what I am suggesting is that your neck pain may be better tackled in an alternative way.
Good luck, Richard

A muscle relaxant would be very useful. Something none of my GPs have ever offered. Trouble is they keep saying I am already on too much medicine. I will look up Robaxin and see if it clashes with anything. I have been looking into CBD oil. Some people say it not only helps with pain, but with insomnia and anxiety. I hope you can find a doctor who really listens and will help.

I will have to look into that. I actually have osteoarthritis, as well as Fibromaglia. I have had arthritis in my neck since my 20's. Came on from a manual job which wrecked all my tendons in both arms, and hands (Tenosynovitis) and Osteoarthritis in my neck and back. I wasn't aware of any problem until then. I am waiting to hear from an advanced physiotherapist for the results from a MRI I had on my neck a few weeks ago.
Thank you RichardKen

I don't think Doctors realize how stressful pain is and the long term affects it has on your entire life. I fully understand where you are coming from. I have been struggling with my mental health. My friend also has Fibromyalgia and she gets very down. She is housebound a lot of the time.

Hi, your right they don't understand pain and the feelings of despair and depression it brings with it. Their attitude is very matter of fact and flippant.

I'm so sorry you've been left on this situation, it seemed to have been a tragedy of errors, but horrendous that they'd leave you without any painkillers over the weekend. Can you get CBD, or even the real thing? You could try maybe taking 3 solpadine tmrw instead of 2 to take the edge off the pain, although not really to be recommended, but could help till you get to the clinic on Monday. I've done a Pain Management course and tbh it can help, but my feeling is the ppl giving the courses haven't got any experience of pain we have to endure and it's easy to talk about it when you've no experience. I know my rhumy didn't want me going on any a higher dose of painkiller and tbh I didn't want to go down that route, but I do take cannabis oil, and it definitely helps and no high so easy to function, should look into it. In the long term co codamol is not the best for you so if you could find something the replace even one or two doses, you may eventually be able to wean down on them to a low dose. Pain can drag you down so much and cause all manner of other things, lack of sleep, anxiety, depression, so if there's anything you can do to get on top of it then that's what you need to do! I can understand you saying you feel like killing yourself, I'm sure alot of us have been at the point, but please remember that you can get help, just talk to someone, even ring Pieta house, but please don't despair. Do you have a support group near where you live?Any kind of support? I really hope you'll be ok, please mind yourself and if you're feeling down, come on here, we're all in the same boat, so understand more than most💕

Hi
Thankyou so much for your lovely reply! I have tried cbd oil in 25mg and 50mg and didn't find a difference. To be honest I didn't give the 50mg much of a chance as it was so vile tasting! What strength do you find helps and is it the oil you put under your tongue that you use? I've now got my cocodamol on repeat so that I'm not in that position again.

So glad you've been sorted out, hope you gave them an earfull tho for leaving you in that position! I make my own CBD so don't really know the strength and I take it in yogurt with a spoon of strawberry jam in it to make it stronger than flavoured yogurt and try to mask the taste😂 Please take care and if you can keep a little stash of your tablets for emergencies at least you won't be in that position again! xx
