Taking more than the prescribed dose

Hi,

So I've recently been put on Orlistat by the doctor and have around 8 stone to loose, I wondered if it would harm me if I took 4 tablets a day or on some days where I'm really hungry during the night. My last meal is usually at 7pm but occasionally I'll either  be really hungry at around 11/12 on the evening/night and want to have something to eat and I do, when I can't help it, but would it be bad if I took another tablet?

Thanks guys ^^

    Hello Rumer.

Do not take 4 tablets a day. You will find that the Orlistat you took during your last meal will still effect your 11/12pm meal. Trust me on this. You would only be wasting an additional tablet, and you may even feel rather ill.

If you're really really worried, then simply make sure your late night meal is low in fat. Remember, Orlistat should only be taken if your meal contains fat.

      Hi,

OK thanks for getting back to me, just scared that it might have only been active up to an hour after I ate, I ate stir Fry with noodles so don't know if that's got much fat in haha

      Cheers ^^ redface

The way to lose weight is by learning about what you're eating.

I started off at 19stone last year. I'm now down to 16, and still going.

But I couldn't have done this without an app I use called MyFitnessPal. I log all my food and drink, and it helps me with figuring out the fat, sugar, protein vitamin etc content of all my food.

Buy a set of food scales and start weighing your food. After a while of doing that it becomes easier to estimate your food weight too.

Hi rumer,  please only take a tablet as prescribed on the leaflet and by your Doctor.  Oralist does not rid your body of fat that you already have - but acts as a fatblaster to any food you put in your mouth from the day you start taking it. You are allowed upto 5 to 15 gms of fat per meal and by taking Oralist it dissolves the fat that you have taken and out it comes, yesterday I had an awful experience I ate brazil nuts and whoosh everything erupted I had to race to the bathroom 6 times, had an awful pain in my stomach and the wind was unbelievable, never again.  That was the first time I went over on my fat content and never again !! Oralist helps you to start taking a good look at the way your eating ie by concentrating on what you are eating and cutting right down on the fat content (not the unsaturated fat content) as you cut down you are also cutting down on your calorie intake and then you will start to lose weight as your not eating as you were before.  I bought a Collins gem "calorie counter"  I do not watch my calorie intake but it also states the amount of fat per 100grams which we all are watching or join up with the fitness pal application as advised.  It takes a couple of weeks to get your head around it, but taking extra capsules will not get rid of anymore weight and there are always possible side effects to these tablets, not a wise move plus if your getting them by prescription the Dr will notice your running out of them before you should, hope this has been of some help smile
