Taking sertraline- does depression feel like this? Advice please!

Hi guys,
I've been on sertraline for 2 weeks now and felt really low with lots of panic attacks for the majority of the time.
I've just got this really low mood today and I keep panicking that I've never found happiness (which I know i have) and any happiness I feel is fleeting and when I have it I panic if it's really happiness and will I ever appreciate it again?
I just feel terrible and I don't normally feel this low. I've got a phenomenal support network, but I've never experienced feeling so low. Is this depression?
I know it's only 2 weeks in and I'm on 50 mg...do I need to give it more time before I will feel better. I just feel dog awful!
Thanks x x

Sertraline usually takes up to 8 weeks to reach its peak. The first few weeks aren't great for some people, although my side effects were ok. Hang in there is you can for a few more weeks.

Amy,
Talk to your doctor about upping your dose. Remember, 50mg is a rather small dose of sertraline and if you have gone 2 weeks now with no serious physical symptoms such as nausea or vomiting you should be fine to move up to the next dose level. I started a week ago on 50mg and I've already been cleared to start 100mg a day which I began last night.
As for the panic attacks, have you considered requesting a benzo for the weeks leading up until the sertraline really starts working? My doctor prescribed me both Zoloft and Klonopin. Klonopin is a fast-acting benzo that a lot of practitioners pair with Zoloft in the first 6-8 weeks of treatment before the Zoloft really takes effect. This is to provide you with temporary relief in the long, grueling weeks it takes for Zoloft to actually begin to work.
I hope this helps. Stay strong and even if the benzo option isn't for you, just know you are already 2 weeks in! Don't give up now. You've already made progress with the drug you just need more time for it to fully work.

Hi amy97770, just seeing how your getting on with sertaline? I've been on it now for 2weeks, 6days 25mg and 8days on 50mg. I've had some not very nice side effects, heightened anxiety, dry mouth, nausea, loss of appetite plus the rest. The last couple of days I've got my appetite back abit and I've felt better at night then in the day but woke today anxious again and in a really low mood which doesn't want to shift. Just seeing how your getting on?
