Taking statins due to high cholesterol caused by thyroid

Hi I've just been put on statins due to high cholesterol . Was told it was because of my under active thyroid . I'm reluctant to take them as I've heard you get muscle damage please could anyone put my mind at ease if you also have under active thyroid and are on statins

Thanks

It would depend on the cholesterol level and cholesterol/HDL ratio. A cholesterol level of up to 275 with a ratio of up to 3.5 really is a good result and I would refuse treatment. The ratio is the biggest predictor of heart disease

    Hi

I belong to a couple of excellent thyroid forums, TPAUK and Heathunlocked Thyroid U.K. who both say that if high cholesterol is caused through underactive thyroid then when you are optimally treated for your thyroid then the cholesterol should come down and then statins should then not be needed.

What is your TSH, Free T4 and Free T3 levels like.
