Hi have been on Tamsulosin for 3 years which has helped my flow but have seen a decrease in the last 2 months . 4 weeks ago had total urine retention a Catherter was fitted ( ouch) and kept in situ for 10 days during this time the Finasteride was added Catherter removed for a trial all good for 24 hours then UTI arrived various antibiotics for 10 days sample showing clear but still have a lot of discomfort when peeing now after another 2 weeks urine smelling sweet...... but my biggest problem is feeling not well lathargic thick head I'm sure it's the combination of the two drugs as when on the Tam alone felt fine ....; Any ideas thanks Tim

THose two drugs caused me to feel fuzzy, off balance and yes lethargic. I stopped them after my Urolift in Dec 2015, and even though the Urolift great results lasted only a few months, I never went back on those pills. I've been cathing since, while awaiting trial results for iTind, here in the US.
The TURP is probably the least-liked option on this forum. Yes, some have reported good to excellent results, but others are now living permanent hightmares. CIC (clean intermittent cathing) is a small inconvenience for me, compared with a statistically not insignificant likelihood of permanent disaster!
Please check out this topic on this forum; it has been a help to me and many others.

"feeling not well lathargic"
Finasteride can lower blood pressure and cause the above. You'll get used to it I think.
What is your IPSS score ? If it is not too bad, I would not rush to have surgeries. Give finasteride a chance.
Are you retaining urine ?
I have been on doxazosin for years and just started finasteride 2 months ago. Finasteride seems to help my flow a little so far, but what surprises me is it helps to negate the RE (retro ejaculation) which is definitely caused by doxazosin. Again, I am on it only for 2 months.

Let me add to the list the self cath (CIC) option. It will immediately fix your LUTS and protect both bladder and kidneys as well as any prostate reduction surgery or procedure. It will also buy you time to explore current or wait for better procedures.
