Taking Warfarin

I am sorry that so many people have problems with this, but please remember that many people take it successfully, and although it is often far from perfect, we are lucky to have the care that we do have.

I just felt that this sometimes needs pointing out

Well said. Warfarin has kept me going for 9 years since I had a mechanical heart valve replacement. And since self-testing for the past 3 years with excellent GP support, life is even more manageable.

Yes we have a self testing kit...brilliant...only way we had to keep levels within the range needed was to test every three or four days...the count went up and down like a yo-yo.

Now on Apixaban for about 18 months and so far no problems.

You're right...but when the side effects take a big toll on your quality of life...or lack of it...due to some pretty nasty problems...then a differnt course of action is needed.

That goodness there are now other anticoagulants available.
