Taking xanax daily and need advice..

Hi. I have been on Prozac for 3.5 years and has a prescription of xanax that I literally had for 2 years just in case I got a panic attack. Recently I've been dealing with some pretty bad anxiety and had to take some time off work. During that time, my gp put me on xanax daily. 1 mg three times a day. I am currently only taking it twice a day. Of course now I have anxiety about being on it. There are nothing but scary "you're addicted" comments everywhere and I don't even know if I'm on a high dose. Does anyone have some advice or experience to help me with? It helps me tremendously but when it's time for the next dose, I'm having rebound anxiety. 😔

Hi wow that's a hard won every body is different I was on xanax for a long time I was taking 1mg 3times a day I could honestly say from my experience in the beginning they were marvels they really worked but after about 11weeks I found that they stopped working and I had become addicted to them but that was just me it does not mean the same thing will happen to you

There have been times throughout the years that Ive had to take it more consistently but not at this high. Usually .50 twice a day. My anxiety just spins from one thing to the next and right now it's worrying about the medicine to make me stop worrying! Lol...oh the irony. Was it hard coming off? How long were you on it?

I say if it works for you then go with it. If the question is are benzos addictive? The answer is yes. They should be used sparingly and when you are getting off of them, you need to be weaned off slowly. They are a quick fix and not meant for a long term use. They are great for taking the edge off

Take it from an old user of 3 1/2 mgs a day of xanax for 20 years that you DO NOT get addicted.  In fact, I was able to decrease the dose I was originally put on.  It does cause a dependence (don't leave home without it because I don't ever want another panic attack).  But dependence is NOT ADDICTION.  Your body does not crave more of it.  In fact if you take more, you'll go to sleep.

You are on a maintenance dose.  No need to be anxious about taking the next dose.  You should know that you should NEVER just stop taking it tho.  If you want to get off, you have to taper very slowly as with all the benzos and anti-depressant meds.

Xanax is a good med for panic disorder and attacks (stopped mine) and I would not be here to chat with you if I was not taking the med.

    Rest easy.

Really frazzled are you saying xanax is not addictive

And yes if you take to much xanax you will go to sleep 😴 like forever xanax is great for a short period of time any doctor will tell you it is not meant to be taken for a long period of time ore you will be come addicted to it

If that was the case gino, I would not be here to chat about it after 20+ years.  It's given primarily for sleep (not death).  Plus, any doctor (maybe in the UK) will not want you to suffer if they can give you a medication or perform a procedure when you are suffering.

Have you or do you suffer from panic attacks?

Frazzled I can assure you xanax was never meant to be for sleep disorder it is for anxiety attacks and panic attacks so much so that we're I live in Australia 🇦🇺 the doctors are no longer prescribing xanax it is so hard to get

I'm glad for you gino.  How long did it take you to withdraw, if you don't mind me asking.

The med has prolonged my life and made it so much better.  I just could not live and function with those attacks.  I thot I'd lose it.

I've always wanted to visit Australia.
