Tamsulosin Hydrochloride and Dementia

My father had prostate cancer just over a year ago and was prescribed Tamsulosin Hydrochloride for it. However, now he is suffering badly from dementia and I read there was a link between T H and dementia. If he comes off th TH, would his dementia improve at all? Has anybody else discovered this?

Are you sure this was the reason T H was prescribed?  It is normally recommended if the prostate is expanding (common with older men : like me!) and pressing on the bladder, causing the man to go more/too often to the loo.

Yeah, I asked my mother this morning what it was so I could do some more research as he's taken a turn for the worst. He started going down hill around the time of his cancer treatment, thought it was the stress of having to go for radiotherapy everyday. But my mother said that's what the hospital gave him (TH)and he has to take them for five years. I was researching tablets they gave him recently to help him sleep, and it came up along side that a certain prostate cancer tablet can cause dementia. (Not , as it goes, the one he's been prescribed.) However, it rang alarm bells so I asked my mother this morning what his tablets were called, and they are TH. So I researched that and it was also linked to dementia...

Do you have a reference for the claim that Tamsulosin is linked to dementia?

A cursory search of reputable medical sites doesn't reveal any studies.

The only serious side-effect I'm aware of is hypotension (low blood pressure).
