Taper

I just tapered from 15mg to 13mg using the dsns method. I have been on 13mg now for 12 days. At 10 days I started having a small amount of pain in both shoulders. It hasn't gotten any worse. I am not sure what I should do or if i should do anything. I want to start another taper but I don't know if I should yet. Any advice?

Mr Bella, we all different, but I stick to always reducing by less than 10% using DSNS so I would reduce by 1 mg, but not if I had PMR pain, I never reduced if PMR in any pain. First stabilize at what ever level necessary, then reduce quickly to 15 mg and restart your taper. I was using a modified 38 day DSNS taper. Good luck on the rest of your journey. Think positive and try to smile. 🙂

Thank you, I thought that might be the right way. I am just wondering, since my pain has not increased in 2 days nearly 3, and the pain is real mild, should I wait another day or 2 and see if the pain increases or stabilizes?

I would wait if mild pain, but you want to be pain free before reducing, then real slowly, less than 10%, you will use less Pred in the long run. Good luck!

Best to wait until you are sure that 13mg is managing your symptoms. If you are right at the level when PMR pain is manageable, pushing is below 13 may cause flare and then you would be back at 15 or higher. So, wait few weeks; if the pain goes away, you can continue. If symptoms are getting worse, you may need more pred at the moment.

If you have some pain then you need to wait a bit and see if it improves or gets worse. Did you do anything in the few days before it appeared? It is all too easy to overdo things while reducing and get a sore back so you can't tell if it is the reduction or something else.

I am always going to the barn and feeding the goats and sometimes they get a little frisky and nearly push me down. I also work outside a little to much.

I think I will take it easy for a few days and see what happens. I feel a little less pain today when I got up.

      I will see what happens.

      Thanks Eileen.
