Hello! today is about a week since ive started my tapering journey to come off of 100mg sertraline! im tapering off from 100mg to 75mg by doing 100mg one day and 75mg the next for a month, then just 75mg for a month, repeating the process until im down to none. ive been feeling fine, i over think it too much making myself feel abit weird but im sure thats all that is! I was wondering if i could just go down to 75mg a day already? i would just stay there for a while till i feel ready for the next step. has anyone else weaned off this way and what was your experience like? Thank you 😃

Hi joanne,
I have been on sertraline for just over 6 weeks now. 4 weeks at 50mg and 2 weeks at 100mg. How long did it take for 100mg to take effect for you?

i was first on 50mg for about 8-12 weeks and i felt i wasnt feeling good enough. I told my doctor and he upped me to 100mg. it did take quite a while for my body to get used to it and for me to start feeling like me again. id gave it about 3-4 months, your brain and body need time to figure it all out 😃

Yea i think so! its never a quick fix, i got told to stick with it, some people do not carry on with them as they dont start to work straight away! my doc said they take atleast 8-12 weeks to kick in and if i still felt iffy after that time period we should review my dosage. i started on 50mg then went up to 100mg after about 10 weeks as felt is wasnt enough for me! but everyone is different 😃 ive been on 100mg for about 1.5 years and have been feeling good for the past 6+ months hence why im deciding to taper off. if i can do it, anyone can. I overthink everything, make myself think im having a off day or feeling weird when im reality ive thought myself into feeling that way. it was all in my head, stay busy and try not to focus on it so much. Something that helped me through was just reminding myself of what is the worst thing that can happen, not alot lol. that would bring me back to reality and to just pull my socks up & get on with it. thats not a angle everyone gets on with but it worked for me:) im not there yet and have a long way to go but im feeling positive!

Hi Joanne,
Sorry for late reply. Its so good to hear that you are doing well! Its a horrible horrible position to be in what we are/were in, but with the right mindset and determination it is beatable. I'm for sure having betters days now compared to 2-3 weeks ago, I still have moments like we all do but I think its acknowledging that moment and not falling in to it. What you said was spot on about " what is the worst that could happen ". I find that the "what if" causes anxiety for me, because its all made up scenarios which are not real. Even if it is real and that problem is either past or present, what ever that thought or situation might be just don't let it bother you and live in the moment. Our minds let us run away and ruminate on things that we don't want to. Becoming friends with anxiety is the key to controlling it. I started meditating which I found was really helpful as it calms you down if you feel anxious, no cure in the slightest but it helps. Mindfulness is something I would advise people to look up. Mornings are probably the worst for me as I wake up anxious but it doesn't last long.
Its all about being patient and giving the medicine time to build up aswell.
