Tapering question

Can you taper from 5.62 to 3.75mg? I was reading an old post about changing Mirt to liquid form for easier taper. Evergreen post was how to change pills to liquid 3 yrs. ago. She had her tapering list and on it was 5.62 to 3.75. I have been on 5.62 since Sept. When I went to 3.75 dry heaving started. Will this past? The reason I went on MIRT was for anxiety due to dry heaving. I am tapering because I hate the way I feel on it. Tired, twitchy, pain in feet, dry mouth, teeth feel funny.

Hi Pam,
Sounds as though mirt isn't for you. I have and have similar side effects and worse. I am coming using the liquid. Not sure where you are from but in the UK docs can be a little reluctant to give liquid as a lot more expensive so you you have to push for it. You must get a syringe which shows mls and has measurements between the mls marks which helps with accuracy. Add it in juice as it can be v bitter in water. I was on 45ml and down to about 42. Been like this for about 4 weeks now. If I come down any quicker I suffer from horrible anxiety, headaches and even feelings of dread. My general side effects just now are periodic anxiety for no reason, muscle pain and fatigue, restless legs, tiredness and weight gain. I look forward to being mirt free and me again, with my own mind back! Good luck

Thanks for your comments. I am in the US and will have to check on liquid. Too hard to cut pills accurately. I did try 3.75 last night and not a good morning. Feel like flu symptoms chills then hot, dry heaving and stomach issues. I feel exhausted. I have a doctor's appointment on the 22nd.

Hi Pam. Sorry to hear of the bad symptoms you are having. I've not heard of flu symptoms before with coming off mirt. Could it be that may be your immune system is v low and some of these symptoms you are presenting with, basically feeling like crap, are the actual flu or similar and that you may be suffering with a virus that is coincidentally running along you cutting down on your mirt? That's a long time to wait, 22nd. I would try to get to see your doc much sooner. I hope things improve soon. I've come from 45mg to 42 on the liquid and as of tonight I am going to try 40mg.ive still got a way to go. Let's hope your journey is quicker!

Hi Pam. Personally I would not drop straight from 5.62 to 3.75, if that's what you meant. I've found a 10% drop every 3 weeks to be the max my body can handle without any definite withdrawal, though of course everyone is different and there are people who cope with it ok. But 10% every 4 weeks is the recommended taper (from those with experience, not from clueless doctors). I would definitely recommend getting onto the liquid form though. There is no way I'd have been able to have such a successful taper (so far... the worst may be yet to come at the end) without the liquid. Not sure where you're based but you need to buy it here in the UK (not available on prescription) but in my opinion it is well worth the £60 to be able to do smaller, more accurate drops, and it lasts for ages. Make sure you buy a 1ml syringe if you do get the liquid though - it's the only way you can get the drops accurate - and not the one included in the bottle. A chemist will be able to help you with the right syringe if you show them the bottle and explain you're tapering.
In terms of the dry heaving - if you were put on Mirt to help with this and the related anxiety then it sounds to me not likely to be the WD or the med that is causing this specific side effect, though many people say WD makes them feel terrible nausea, so it could well be making it worse during WD - sounds to me like you should try to avoid WD at all costs.
Good luck - I would really recommend buying the liquid. If you do, don't also drop when you do a switch, switch to the liquid at the same dose for 2-3 weeks, to give your body time to adjust to the new form.

Thanks for the recommendations. I did drop to 3.75 last night which was a huge mistake. Since I been tapering I feel terrible. It is too hard like you said to get accurate doses by cutting pills. I am in the US and will check on liquid form. This is a long process and very unbearable.
