Taping for Jaw Clicking

I have developed a clicking jaw predominantly on one side. My dentist thinks it maybe to do with grinding teeth and is organising a mouth guard but he thinks this will take a while to take effect. In the mean time he is recommending I try taping the jaw especially at night but ideally day time especially when I am eating. Does anyone have any experience of this. Think it will look a bit weird when I am in public
