I recently had major open heart surgery due to AF. I am taking amiodarone 200 mg. My taste is shot and food does not taste good. I am loosing weight and am depressed. Are there alternatives. If and when my cardiologist lets me get off this drug, will my taste eventually return and, if so, how long will it take. myron

Sorry to hear about your problem. The literature sites many possible side

effects. I have taken it for over 2 years with no side effects. It has been a

wonderful drug for me. I have taken several different drugs over the years

and none of them worked half as well as amioderone. My advise is to

serch the Internet to see if losing your taste is a side effect that has been

reported. It would be a shame to stop taking amioderone when the cause

of your taste loss in caused by. something else.
