Taste Disturbance on Amitriptyline - Yuk!

Posted , 5 users are following.

Hi all. I've been on 20mg Amitriptyline for two months to treat glossopharyngeal neuralgia and its working very well.

Can anyone who might be on Amitriptyline tell me if this strange taste disturbance will ever subside? Everything does "taste" but nothing tastes like it used to. Sweet foods taste vile as if I'm sucking artificial sweeteners.

Obviously I need to stay on it as it's working but I'm struggling to accept that I've got to put up with this for the foreseeable future!!

Will it get better?? Any long term users out there???

Hello Lindsey. I've been on Amitriptyline for years and never had this problem.

    Hi Lindsey,

I have been on Amitriptyline for a couple of years and take 75mg at night. I have not had changes to the way my food tastes but I do sometimes get a bitter taste in my mouth. It's unpleasant but will be less noticable once I've had something to eat or drink. I'm also on a number of other medications and it could be down to one of them.  I'd speak to your doctor about it, best to check these things out if they are bothering you.

Hope you find answers to your problem :-)
