Taste loss ongoing with terbinafine

Hi I am female 50 years old and 7stone 12lbs. I took terbinafine with no problems for 4 weeks but then my taste distorted. I stopped this drug 5 weeks ago and I still cannot taste much apart from coffee and celery! I am becoming depressed and now have stomach pain due to me not eating - I have no appetite and am losing weight. I guess if anyone can reassure me please it would help my state of mind. My dentist said, "Well doesn't stop you eating" and doc has no answers. I have never "lived to eat" and have not got a sweet tooth but I cannot rid my mouth of the foul taste and just long to taste something (anything) sweet. Thank you for reading.

Millie, I see that you posted this about 7 years ago, and hope very much that your taste is back 100% after taking terbinifine. I was desperate to find a forum about this topic because of my own recent and ongoing experience with the drug. 6 weeks after being on terbinifine to aid in the battle of toenail fungus, suddenly nothing I was eating had any taste -- along with a disgustingly bitter taste in my mouth 24-7. I called my podiatrist's office and was told to stop taking the medication right away. The doctor even told me it had happened to a couple of other patients, too. Really????I wish I had known about this particular side effect -- I was always more worried about liver damage, since that particular side effect has a front and center warning while taking this medication. Apparently, only 2% of the population have had any issues with so-called "taste disturbances."Anyway, it's been 3 weeks since I stopped the pills and have had very little improvement at all.I am depressed. It is amazing how not being able to taste much of anything has sucked out much of the joy in my life. I guess I never realized how much I truly love to eat/how much I look forward to not only eating/my next meal, but enjoying a meal with other people. However, after reading some other posts on this chain, though, I am encouraged it will come back eventually.I plan to call the manufacturer of this drug and tell them my experience. BTW, I am 68 years old and have a low BMI. Apparently, I fit the profile. Ugh! I am hopeful, though.
