Technical problem

This is basically for the site moderator, though other users who are accessing the site via hotmail may want to be alert to this problem.
As of this evening (as far as I'm aware) when I enter my own name from my hotmail account picklist, it comes up with the correct email address but the ID lily65668, as per this site! I was unable to correct this by logging out of both, then logging back into my hotmail account. As I don't want my site ID being exposed to all and sundry when I send personal emails, I've changed the email address I'm using for this site.
I've no idea why this should have happened. This evening is the first time I've noticed it. It may, of course, be down to one of the many "improvements" hotmail insist on inflicting on their users, but I'm wondering if it might also be down to a change on the site settings.

Hi Lily
Sorry for the problem. I don't know if they're related but I came across 2 wild weird posts yesterday, both of which I reported to the moderator.

The best way to the moderators attention is to put a few full stops between phrases I used to do this and I was always moderated, apparently it picks up the dots and it goes staight to the moderator they told me it’s because they thought I was advertising a web address, hope it helps lily, be blessed and have a lovely day😍😍🙏💐

Oh yes, I've been caught out by that one too, when I didn't want to attract attention! In the above case, I wrote the post specifically for the moderator's attention, then reported myself. I still haven't had an answer, which once again suggests to me that we have a new moderator on the site. The previous incumbent was always quick to respond to questions.
In any case I've solved the problem for the time being by no longer using the address I use for my voluntary job.

You may be right. I reported those wacky posts on the weekend & haven't heard from Alan. In the past would've by Tuesday at the latest.

Hi Lily,
I asked the technical team about this and their reply was "sounds like a browser/autocomplete thing" which means either your browser (IE, Chrome etc) is remembering the details and inserting them when you type in the email list or hotmail is doing something similar. I can't advise on how to rectify this apart from trying to Google the issue. I did a quick search and got this:
http://ccm.net/faq/11354-hotmail-configure-auto-complete-suggestions
Aitarg - I was moderating over the weekend/Monday but I can't remember the exact posts you reported but if they were "dodgy" I probably just deleted them.
There is a new moderator and I still help out but any delay in sorting these things is not because we are not checking, just busy .
Regards
Alan

Thanks for this Alan. Aitarg, Tess and I had been speculating that we might have a new moderator. We'll be sorry to see you go.
Whatever the problem is, it's neither the Google Chrome nor Hotmail autocomplete. I've always kept these switched on, for convenience, and this has never happened before. This is an entirely new, and weird, problem. However, given their recent form, I wouldn't put it past Hotmail to have "improved" something else!

Hi both,
Thanks for the messages but I'm not going anywhere . I have just handed over the main moderating as I have other roles here that require my time.
It seems Hotmail have had this or similar issues for a while. I did a quick Google on
enter name from my hotmail account shows a different name
and
hotmail display name is wrong
there are quite a few forums questions if it helps.

Oh thanks, Alan. And I'm glad we're not losing you altogether!
Yes, I did suspect Hotmail all along. The last decent change they made was the upgrade to Outlook 5-6 years ago. Every single "improvement" since than has just taken away useful functions and replaced them with rubbish. Trouble is, like most people I've got too many contacts to make a switch to gmail easy.
Thank you once again for all your efforts.

Hi Alan,
Just to come back briefly on this one. I've established beyond doubt that Hotmail is the culprit, as my picklist when sending emails has now started acting up in other ways unrelated to the Patient site.
I do wish they'd follow the old adage: "If it ain't broke don't fix it!"
Thanks again,
Lily
