Tecnis Eyhance ICBOO vs. Tecnis 1 Piece ZCBOO

I am going to have cataract surgery next year and i am thinking over my options. I have astigmatism but I can't afford a toric iol. I was going to go with the Tecnis 1 Piece ZCBOO and set it for intermediate vision. and wear eyeglasses to correct for distance vision and astigmatism. I know the Eyhance ICBOO is designed to improve intermediate/near vision, but since I am going for intermediate vision anyway, it would seem that the Eyhance would be redundant and the the Tecnis I Piece would be the better choice. What do you all think about my reasoning.? Thanks.

Charles I too will be getting cataract surgery some time next year and planning to target near/intermediate (-2D) with non toric monofocals even though I have astigmatism. Cost is not an issue but I want to keep it simple since I don't mind wearing glasses. More importantly I am a glaucoma suspect and also have epiretinal membrane in one eye so the surgeon ruled out any premium lenses.
Jim have you come across any studies regarding the effects of ERM after cataract surgery with respect to the Eynhance or even for regular monofical lens. My retinal specialist says that my ERM is mild even though I see metamorphopsia on the Amsler grid.

Hi Dave.
I am not Charles, but when I Google searched your question with the terms" monofocal Eyhance epiretinal membrance cataract surgery," it brought up a lot of links that you can read.

All I know is my ophthalmologist recommended the Eyhance for me and he is also the one who told me I have epiretinal membranes. And he said his recommendation was the consensus of himself and 4 other ophthalmologists he consulted about my case, including Dr. Herzig in Ontario, who is a big cheese. Then I went to Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and was examined by the head of their Waltham office and she too recommended Eyhance and was aware of the epiretinal membranes.

In Ophthalmology Times Carton Yuen, MD wrote he liked Eyhance for patients with epiretinal membrane issues:
"I have found the broader landing zone particularly helpful in those eyes for which IOL power calculation is challenging.
For example, one patient with a very large ERM had 20/30 uncorrected distance acuity on day 1 after surgery and claims not to even notice the central distortion much anymore.
It is hard to predict refractive outcomes in such eyes because the ERM tugs on the retina and can make the patient more myopic than intended.
Additionally, if the patient later requires a membrane peel, that may cause the retina to sit about 100 µm more posteriorly, changing the refraction by up to 0.25 D.
With the slight extension in depth of focus in the ICB00 lens, I can give patients with ERM good vision now and enable them to retain it later even if they eventually require a membrane peel."

Your eyes are unique to you alone. More important than the IOL is the skill and the experience of your cataract surgeon and your confidence in that surgeon's judgment and ability. Only your surgeon has examined your eyes and knows your medical history. What ophthalmology journals or people on this forum say about an IOL or their experience with it is of secondary importance. Ask your cataract surgeon what IOL they recommend for you. If you want the Eyhance and your surgeon agrees with your choice, make sure that your surgeon is experienced with implanting it. And if you are in doubt or you don't feel comfortable with your cataract surgeon, get another opinion.
